Powerful fan that can flat out cool a whole room.
I have to set the timer to shut off in a couple of hours or I will get too cold at night... and this is July in the Southern US! The only drawback is I wish it actually had one slower speed on the fan. But that means if you have a large room, no worries!

Question:
Do you have to clean the honeycomb pad? Daisy D
- Daisy D. on 2014-08-25
Answer:
It should be cleaned periodically. It is very easy to remove and rinse under a faucet. The pad will look dirty when it's time to clean, usually once a month or every two months.
- Patricia M. on 2014-08-26
Answer:
Yes its recommended that you clean it every 4 months or so. I have not had to clean mine as of yet and it functions very well.
- Robert T. on 2014-08-26
Answer:
we have had our cooler just over a month, and the pad has remained fresh and clean so far. we always run the cooler on just fan for 20-30 minutes after using to dry out the pad. this probably helps keep it fresh.
- Rebecca S. on 2014-08-26
Answer:
No. The honeycomb is for the water to run down while the air is blowing through it. There are two foam filters that keep dust and hair out of the honeycomb. The foam filters can and should be cleaned as needed from the environment the cooler is being used in.
- Larry C. on 2014-08-27
Question:
where do you refill with water?
- Framcisco G. on 2015-07-13
Answer:
Francisco - As you face the cooler, there is a small plastic flap on the right side, about 10 inches from the floor. Open the flap by the little catch, and pour the water or ice into the reservoir hole. I had the same difficulty originally. I hope this helps.
- David R. on 2015-07-18
Answer:
There is a small door on the right side of the unit. Pull down the door and pour in the water. It will show on the window at the front of the unit.
- Patricia M. on 2015-07-14
Answer:
There is a fold up opening about 1/2 way down on the left side. You just pull it open, then you can fill it. I use a pitcher.
- Diane J. on 2015-07-14
Answer:
Looking at the front, there is a fold down door on the right side just about in the middle of the unit. It is where you put Ice and water both
- Larry C. on 2015-07-13
Answer:
about half-way up the side of the unit there is a small pull-down door (about 3"X3".) if fills easily, except you have to pour the water in slowly or it splashes back. i solved this problem by filling it by dipping a 2 c pitcher into a bucket sitting on the floor. if you can fill from a sink hose it would be a piece of cake. great unit. we're very happy with it.
- Rebecca S. on 2015-07-13
Answer:
Hello, There is a small door on the side of the unit that you can pull open to fill the unit with water or ice.
- Mark S. on 2015-07-14
Question:
What is the electricity usage vs a typical wall unit?
- Anonymous on 2015-08-17
Answer:
Because of it's powerful motor it consumes as much as the 8'000 BTU wall unit minus the power that the compressor would have required that didn't have .
- Mario M. on 2015-08-17
Answer:
I never had a wall unit air conditioner so I can't speak to that. This is a big fan that blows across a bucket of water (with a fancy case and a remote control) its electric usage is the same as a floor fan.
- John S. on 2015-08-17
Answer:
Hello, It can vary depending on the size of the wall unit but from what I have seen, the wall units typically use somewhere between 5 and 7 times the amount of electricity. These units are much smaller and use a lot less power. Let us know if you have any other questions.
- Mark S. on 2015-08-17
Answer:
Not sure specifically the difference but I do know that with the two we have plugged in and running we have not seen a significant jump in our monthly power bill. We have had a window swamp cooler but in a different house and it did make a big difference in our bills. Hope thisbisbsomewhat helpful.
- Tina W. on 2015-08-17
Question:
It is for NYC and it is humid. it is for one bedroom. will it cool since it is humid? Also how noisy is it? Can i return it for free? do you need to keep a window open?
- theresa on 2015-08-24
Answer:
If it is humid the cooler will not work as well as if it was in the desert. I use it and I am 1/2 a mike from the beach so the humidity is mild to moderate but it works for me. The noise level is moderate but I use the noise level in place of my noise maker so it works for me. If you have high humidity the only way to go is with a a/c unit.
- raymond j. on 2015-08-25
Answer:
NewAir AF-1000 is a fine unit to cool with indoors on days with less than 50% humidity. Really does move air and operates quietly, uses only a little water by comparison to other coolers and is so light and easy to move. easy care-easy instructions, learn them ,do them to keep unit like new for a long time.
- John L. on 2015-08-25
Answer:
Hello Theresa, As some of our helpful customers said, evaporative coolers will not be able to cool humid environments like NYC effectively. To answer the rest of your questions, it will only be as loud as a medium sized fan, so not too noisy. We do currently offer free returns for 30 days after purchase. We do usually recommend keeping a window open for airflow so that the room doesn't get too humid.
- Mark S. on 2015-08-24
Answer:
Evaporative coolers work best in places where the humidity is low -- deserts, for example. You'll find that a window air conditioner is a better investment in NYC.
- David B. on 2015-08-24
Answer:
Humidity is how an evaporative cooler works. So, short answer No. Evaporative coolers work on evaporation. If it is humid it doesn't work as well. You'd be better off with an air conditioner. I know, more expensive but this would not work very well in humid conditions.
- Robert G. on 2015-08-24
Answer:
Not noisy at all unless you run out of water in the unit. When the unit senses no water you will get an irritating alarm, easily rectified by filling it back up with water. I use mine in Reno, NV humidity right around 15% during the summer, I do not necessarily keep a window open. I sit about 5 feet in front of the cooler and it keeps me confortable, not sure how it would cool a bedroom. As far as I know, these coolers are returnable - best ask before you order.
- Bonnie B. on 2015-08-24
Answer:
It will NOT work in NYC ... Far to humid
- Alan R. on 2015-08-24
Answer:
Hi! This unit only works if it's a dry climate. If it's humid, it won't cool down at all, and will just make the room even more humid. Depending on the setting (1, 2, or 3) it will get a little loud; sort of like an industrial fan. It's recommended to keep a window open, as it's pushing out wet air into the room to cool it down. I've had my unit for about a month, and had only used it twice, but am not really happy with it since it doesn't actually cool the room down more than 2-3 degrees. It's disappointing when it says it will cool a room off much more than that. As far as returns go, the website says you can return it within 30 days, with no restocking fee, and no shipping cost to you. Hope this helps!
- Jennifer M. on 2015-08-24
Answer:
You can return it for free. But it will not cool your apartment because of the humidity. I live in Seattle and it didn't work at all for me. Your best bet is getting a portable air conditioner.
- Donovan B. on 2015-08-24
