What started as an ordinary customer service call ended with a personal visit from Wing Lam, co-founder of Wahoo’s Fish Tacos. James Ibrahim, one of our customer service agents, received a call from a customer who was having some problems with the fan in his NewAir AW-280E Thermoelectric Wine Cooler. James spoke to him, troubleshooting the issue as usual, and found out he was speaking with Wing Lam, co-founder of Wahoo’s Fish Tacos. By a happy coincidence, their home office is less than three miles from our warehouse, so James arranged for Wing to come and drop off his wine cooler for repair. As a thank you, he offered to bring in some tacos for our staff.
Wing Lam Drops By For Lunch
Wing’s timing was fortuitous. Every month, our entire staff sits down for a lunch together. It’s an opportunity for us to recognize outstanding employees and learn about new developments in the company. When our Director of Operations, Anthony Shannon, heard Wing Lam was coming to deliver tacos, he called Wing and asked if he could send one of Wahoo’s taco trucks instead, so the entire company could have lunch. Wing agreed and actually rode along with his staff to help serve the food. After we’d all gotten lunch, he came in and told us a little about some of his unique experiences as a Southern California businessman. As a part of his business, he’s been honored to work with a large number of Hispanic-Americans. Through these associaitons, he has become fluent in Spanish, enough to frustrate some street vendors in Central and South America who have tried to pull a fast one on him. Now they know who his is and warn their friends not to try speaking Spanish in front of him in hopes of getting a better deal.
After his talk, Wing brought in some dessert (cookies and Rice Krispies) to make sure we’d all had enough to eat. He left his broken cooler with us for repair, and our team got right to work on it. In a few days, he’ll be chilling wine at home again, courtesy of Air & Water. Thanks Wing! It was an honor having you here.
