Symphony Sumo-J Portable Evaporative Air Cooler

Really makes a difference in hot weather. It comes ready to use right out of the box, just add water. You can run this machine for hours with the 11 gallon tank. This is a great buy!!

Uses a small cage and high rpm to project cooled, moisture laden air long distances. The low setting could use a slower speed and I have not needed the two higher speeds indoors. As long as they are inserting a a coupon under the packing box flap when shipping, I might suggest a caution sheet to inspect the interior of the unit. As these unit travel long distances, I found that one media pad retainer had come loose. Of more importance to me was the amount of debris in the water well. Besides some media flakes, there were plastic shavings which might find their way into some moving parts - possibly BAD. In the very dry Arizona air, I'm using about a gallon an hour.

A simple to operate machine,cools well.I did have a leak,and a filter misinstalled.But Air+water quickly resolved this.I think the company is a great place to buy. John Ziegler

It works very well here in the desert.But in may need service right out of the box.Mine had a crack in the bottom.First I needed to patch the crack,than I noticed that one panel was not assembled right.An easy fix,but it should never have left the factory that way.Maybe a price adjustment is in order.$259.00 is a lot for a fix-er upper. This unit has a very large water tank, easily replaceable cooling pads, and the fan moves an amazing 1100 cfm. We use it in the house on extra-hot days to cool the kitchen and the family room. We use it in our 30'x50' work shop to keep us cool. By using the Sumo Jr. directed at us to keep us cool we do not have to try to cool the entire shop and we are still comfortable! It is the best! The optional cart is very sturdy, inexpensive, and makes this truly portable.

I received my unit very fast and efficiently. Cools my small home very well. It drops down the temperature at least 10 degrees. My home is in the mountain area of Los Padres national forest. The elevation is around 5000 ft. We get a few days in the low 90's so my Symphony Sumo Jr. works great!!

I use this cooler outside in the shade in Phoenix all summer and I can do my woodwork all day without heat stroke by standing directly in front it. I couldn't work outside without it!

Cools my office about 10 degrees, blows nice cool air, and you don't need a window. However it is noisy in a small space, and it makes it hard to speak on the phone.

I have bought 2 of these, 2 years and 3 years ago. They work very well. Today reached 110 degrees here in Texas, and with just the 2 of these running the inside temp was about 85. I have spent a year trying to find the replacement pads, even contacting Symphony by email (India) with no response. It is advertised that the pads can be replaced, but good luck in finding any for sale. IF the pads were available this unit would get a 5-star rating. As is, I figure they are only good for about 4 years before tossing due to something so simple as needing new pads. What a waste.

I use the cooler in a great room. It does a pritty good job of assisting the AC unit in cooling the room. I just wish it would have come with the stand like most of the other units.

We recently purchased a Sumo-J Evaporative cooler and wow- it sure does put out a blast of cool air! Living in the desert, it is ideal for cooling and saves us lots of money on electric bills versus air conditioning. The motor is powerful and tank size is good (about 11 gallons). The option to install a water line on the back for continuous water flow is a very nice feature. Now we don't have to worry about running out of water when we are at work all day. The manual on/off controls allowed us to put it on a timer so the Sumo-J starts and shuts off when we're not home. Great product for the price!

I have a sewing room in the area that was at one time the garage. It is on the west end of my home so to add a window unit would not help with nothing to shade that side. As a senior citizen I was familiar with evaporative coolers since that was the way we cooled off for a lot of years. I began looking for something small that I could move around and found this. I have just started using it and it seems like what I wanted. July and August will let me know if it is my answer. At this time I am very plesed with it.

The Sumo-J is great - it cools my mobile home living room and kitchen quite nicely. I really appreciate the filling it from the top - perfect. Only one minor flaw, in my opinion, I would have liked it to run on fan only - there are days here when humidity is too high for evaporation and a fan only would be nice on those days.

So far so good...really liking this little cooler. We use it in the great room to help keep this very warm part of the house cool and it's working great... Really cutting down on the use of the AC.... the only issue is, that I didn't read enough to know that the stand didn't come with it. Now I'll have to pay to ship the stand too. I think it should have come with it like all the other "Portable Coolers".

This is my 3rd Sumo-J. First one lasted over a year with 6-8 hours of use every night. Does a great job of increasing relative humidity in bedroom (from around 16% to 40-50%). Just a bit loud but you get used to that pretty quickly. Second one I bought was a lemon and failed within 2 weeks. Air & Water, Inc sent xmlnsnt even before I returned the bad one. This one works fine. Be sure to buy the 'cart' or you won't be able to move it.

I purchased the Sumo-J to cool a small apartment, with temperatures outside of 95-100 degrees. And I must say it has done a very good job. I do not tolerate temps above 80 degrees very well so this cooler has kept our apartment very pleasant.

We spend lots of time on our screened patio, but at temps of 100-110, we often were forced inside. When we heard friends talking about using an evaporative cooler to cool an area, we started looking for a quality product to use on our patio. After an extensive internet search, we purchased the Sumo-J. Factors that were important to our selection were: Airflow (delivers a high volume of air across the room so we do not need to sit right next to it); water reservoir (refills are less often); and ease of installation (only assembly is the base which snaps together). After we read some of the other comments about the cooler not cooling, we had some concerns but they were unfounded. If one understands the mechanics of evaporative cooling, any cooler will not be as effective if the surrounding air has a higher dew point. For example, during the monsoon season, the dew point is high (above @55%) so the cooling will be less effective. More water in the air = less evaporation and therefore, less cooling. We are extremely happy with the Sumo-J and it has provided us with many more hours of patio leisure time!

I ordered the Symphony Sumo-J Portable Evaporative Air Cooler to be used in an upstairs bedroom that never seems to cool off like the rest of the house. I filled the machine with water as instructed and turn on the fan and cooler. I returned about an hour later to what felt like a jungle! It was not any cooler than when I left, just more damp. :( I returned it and replaced it with a Symphony Hi Cool, and that works much better in my opinion.

The product I bought worked great did everything and more. But it came in looking used and outside case was broke in a bunch of different places. I hope who ever buys it has better luck than I had. Again works great.

Have had the Sumo-J for only a short while but like it. It produces a lot of air movement so is a bit on the loud side but we are already used to it. Live in a dry climate so use it as a humidifier in winter and humidifier/cooler in summer. In our bedroom, it has increased the relative humidity (winter) from around 25% to 60% which is much better than other evaporative coolers we have used. One thing to remember is that the wheeled trolley comes as a separate item and you really do need it to move it around.

The air cooler is great. Just what we needed for outdoor events in South Texas.

Works great

My central air died a year ago and I could not afford to have it replaced. Instead I got the Sumo-J and it did the job for the part of the house it was in, using very little electricity. Instead of replacing the refrigerated air and paying the high electricity costs, I am getting 2 more of these to cool the rest of the house. Only drawback is having to refill the water tank every 3-4 hours.

We purchased this unit to cool an outdoor patio at our restaurant in Houston. We like the style and the portability, and so far, it's performing very well. We are very pleased with the performance and would definitely recommend it to others.

I have 3 air coolers and all work great. I use them on my outdoor patio since it gets to over 110? F here in Casa Grande, AZ, and they're great for my mom who goes outside occasionally for a cigarette. These coolers are great just for those few minutes when she smokes. I would definitely recommend these to others, especially in an enclosed patio or porch. All of my friends say how it is a great idea to use them outside, even though they're made for indoor use.
