Soleus KY-80 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote Control

This product was purchased after doing a lot of research on different but similar products. The reason for choosing this product were based on the price and the square footage it was sufficiently able to cool, the product's reviews, it's size for where I planned using it, etc. So far I am very satisfied with the product. Set up was fairly simple and self-explanatory as well as use of the product. The remote makes adjustments even easier. I was surprised how quickly the room cools off only shortly after turning on the air conditioner. The only reason that I rated energy sufficient at average is because I haven't gotten a utility bill since I have started using the product. When ordering this product price was definitely a huge factor. This product seemed to be of high quality at a reasonable price. After I ordered the product and checked back a couple days later I found that it was $40 cheaper if I were to order it that day. I sent an email to customer service and my money was refunded the next day. I was especially happy with the way customers are treated here at Air-n-Water. I will definitely be shopping here again.

Even though we have Central Air my room is farthest from the furnace and is warmer in the summer. I hooked this up and can sleep comfortable in the hot nights. I like the size it's not as big as a previous one I had and it was easy to install. I would definitely recommend this product. I am also happy with Air & Water Inc., It took less than a week for delivery and arrived in excellent condition. I will definitely do business with them again.

Hasn't really been hot enough to test completely, but we're very happy with this product and our experience with Air-N-Water. Personal attention from the company makes them the go-to source for these types of products for us.

I bought the Soleus KY-80 to cool off a small enclosure that I built to house a noisy computer server that is located in a conference room at my work. The server is very noisy and puts out hot air, up to 130F, so the room would never get cool enough from the central air conditioner. The KY-80 fit my needs perfectly. My conference room is now quiet and my server is staying cool with the KY-80 which is critical to the operations at my company.

I have a small office and needed a new portable air conditioner here. This product works great, maintains an even temperature so I don't have to think about it throughout a busy day. The remote works well, too, which isn't always the case in my experience with fans, etc.

THE HEAT AND HUMIDITY (83%) IN THE LIVING ROOM/DINING ROOM WAS TOO MUCH FOR THE UNIT. HOWEVER, I PLACED IN THE MASTER BEDROOM UPSTAIRS AND LIFE IMPROVED 100%! ALSO, THE MANAGER WAS A GEM. SHE HELPED IN GETTING THE UNIT OUT TO ME QUICKLY WITH NO STRESS. SOUTHERN CAL WAS HOT AND HUMID--SO RARE.

Only one general criticism to get out of the way has to do with the info that the window space holder for the vent can be cut to size if necessary. Perhaps, but it is hard plastic and you'll have to think carefully of what tools to use, ( (perhaps AIR and WATER has a suggestion). The rest of my review relates to use in a fiberglass trailer 7 ft by 10 feet. A small size but I hoped the greater heat load would make the task sufficiently difficult for the 8000 BTU's to not keep cycling off. We've had our trailer since 2003 with ceiling fan that opens for outside air. Always traveling with two dogs and avoiding the hot weather, this year had too much heat. The unit worked effectively, especially since I did not have to get up at all during the night to empty water out of the reservoir. I'm confident this unit will work as a backup air conditioner at home if any of our units should suddenly fail. I was also pleased to have access to this instruction manual courtesy of Air and Water (it was key in purchase decison).

I use this unit to cool my bedroom with vaulted ceilings. The unit works great.

For under 300.00 I am happy with the overall operation of this unit. Fairly quiet and enough cool air for a small room. Highly recommended for a budget air conditioner. Setting up is less than half an hour. Window accessories kit was well designed for easy installation.

I love this little gem! It is very powerful and takes up hardly any space. It cools down my room in about 10 minutes. It was also extremely easy to install. I am actually thinking about getting another for my living room. I am so glad I found this website!!!

Just bought this last month for my son in college. I did a lot of homework on buying the right unit. He has no A/C in the apartment ( approx 500 sq ft). He has said it has cooled the entire apartment very well. It was a little tricky with the window vent. We did have to put the A/C unit on a self made wooden pedestal to reach the window ledge. Pay attention to this. But the hose was plenty long enough to make it all work. Overall, great price and great construction. By the way Air&water's customer service from head to toe was great! I would use them again. Ordering/Shipping was right on time.

I needed simple to use to cool my office with. I found this product OB Air n Water and decided to give it a try. Great product. Very portable and easy to use. I would recommend this product to anyone.

This product didn't work for me because of its size and the space I wanted to put it in. However, the return process was simple and efficient although, due to the well advertised stocking fee, expensive.

Very compact yet very powerful. Not any louder than my last one. I really like them, bought 2.

I use it in my 5x12' work trailer that is black... Heats up a lot in 80-100 degree weather and this unit keeps it nice and cool, simple to install and use. For the price it would be difficult (if possible) to find a better bang for your buck.

Finally a real good portable cooling machine that can be set up and used anywhere. Works as described, highly recommend.

I use this unit in my baby's room which is a 10x10. I'm in Colorado so I don't have to drain the unit an sit cools the room down to the low 70's pretty quickly(1hr or so). Keeps my kids sleeping! It is quieter than the 14000 but unit I bought for my bedroom but that is to be expected with the lower but rating. I also like the window kit it came with, sits foush with the window and is easy to install. Would highly recommend for smaller rooms.

This is perfect! It cools the room quickly and easily and the portable feature is priceless. We have already moved it to various rooms while doing home improvement projects and it has made them much more bearable in this 90 degree heat. Great product!

Initially I was going to rate this product lower, but I reconsidered after thinking about my particular space compared to more modern ones. I live in a divided house that was clearly designed/constructed before AC became a viable solution, so every room in the house is connected via large doorways with transoms, most walls are external, and there are many windows. For my needs, this AC is much better suited than a stationary window unit, since it's very easy to move it between rooms since it's on wheels and installing the exhaust hose to a window is a largely painless process. The unit does a decent job of cooling in my apartment where it's nearly impossible to effectively isolate a small space, so I imagine it is excellent in a more modern/smaller setting. Lately I've used it primarily in its dehumidifier mode, which in the evenings is tremendously helpful at cooling a room without the added energy use of full AC mode. in short - a well constructed unit, easy to set up, and it does what it's supposed to

Many told me that portable air conditioners either do not work or are very inefficient. I was in a position where it was either a portable air conditioner or nothing. I did a thorough internet search and read hundreds of reviews including Consumer Reports. I purchased the Soleus KY 80 as the most highly rated at an affordable price. I recommend it with enthusiasm.

I did some homework about portable AC units since I cannot use a window unit in my condo. Price was certainly a factor, as was size since our bedroom is small. The Soleus KY-80 seemed the best fit on paper, and the real thing did not disappoint! It is small in terms of AC units, but definitely takes up space. Installation was pretty easy, though the directions are not terribly clear (it's rather intuitive to put together though). The window kit feels a bit flimsy, but I suppose it won't go through a whole lot of abuse sitting in the window. About half an hour after opening the box, the unit was on and made a notable difference in the heat/humidity within about 10 minutes! We are having a heck of a heat wave in New England with hazy, hot, humid weather with temps in the mid to upper 90s, and this little guy cut right through it. It is a little noisy, but not more so than any other AC unit- my husband and I slept through the night in cool comfort. If you have a small bedroom that needs cooling and a window unit is not an option, I would definitely consider the Soleus KY-80. Oh, and buy it from Air & Water- shipping was lightening-fast and customer service answered all my questions promptly and professionally. :)

I'm impressed by this unit's construction and how cheap the shipped price is. It blows cold air, and definitely removes humidity. That said, I'm having a problem understanding why so many of these portable A/Cs are single hose. If you are not familiar with how the single hose versions work, they pull ambient air, use it for cooling the condenser and compressor, then exhaust the hot air out the window. When air is blown out of the room's window, more air must enter the room somewhere. That air will ultimately be the warm and/or humid outside air. Basically, the A/C is working against itself because it's pulling a constant stream of outside air into the room. Window, central, and dual hose portable A/Cs do not do this. To top it off, when this A/C has reached the temperature setpoint, the compressor turns off, but both fans (inside cold air flow and outside hot air) continue to run. This is ok in general since it's helps to dry the condensation from the evaporator coils, but again, the constant flow of air to the outside pulls in more warm outside air, therefore speeding up the process of warming the room again!!! A dual hose portable A/C has a second hose to pull in outside air and therefore keeps the outside air stream completely isolated from the inside air. Although I have not tried a dual hose unit, I wish I would have bought one instead.

Looked at several 5000 to 8000 btu Portable Air Conditioners and selected the Soleous KY-80 8000 BTU for my 5' X 12' work/tool room because of it's smaller size. Ran the exhaust vent hose through an exterior wall and installed a 5" exhaust vent with screen at the outlet. Unit runs quite and cools down the room quickly on initial startups. Prompt shipping was appreciated because of 98 degree outside temperatures.

I did not have a chance to use this AC a lot because we did not have many really hot days yet since I bought it. I did installed and briefly use 2-3 times. The case looks very sturdy. I am really impressed by the flexibility and extensiblity of the tube for condensat and window kit was easy to install.

I've now owned three portable AC's, this one was the easiest out of the box to assemble and does what it says it will do, it easily cools a small room. (10x10) I'm using it in Colorado so in high dry environments its perfect. Took maybe 10 minutes to drop the room temp 6 degrees. I'll happily buy another one if its keep performing well. Time will tell.

The Air & Water Company is very easy to work with. Ordering was a pleasant experience, the representative was cordial and most helpful with giving me additional information about the KY-80 portable air conditioner. Delivery by FedEx was on time. I would highly recommend the KY-80 and Air & Water. I plan on ordering another unit (either the KY-80 8000 btu air conditioner or a larger 10000 btu portable air conditioner) in the future.

For the purpose (cooling a small bedroom to a cool temperature -- about 150 sq.feet), this product is effective (although it wasn't too hot the day tested, so we will have to wait for the hotter summer days). The remote works well. I wish there was an option to stop the fan when the compressor is not working (the fan is, like any other fan, noisy). Installation was easy. The packaging box is well thought too (it opens from below after you cut the cords, so you can take the box from the top).

I love the product, use it in my 100 sq ft office at work. My ceilings are 12 ft high and it has no problem cooling. The only negaitve factor is the noise. Wish it was a little quieter, but the positive side to the noise is that I don't get distracted as easily.

We have central air, but our son's west-facing upstairs room particularly during the later afternoon heat of the day was uncomfortable. This is a problem since that usually is his main time to sleep after going to college in the morning, since he works the nite shift. Our homeowners assc. does not allow window air conditioners. The unit keeps his room wonderfully cool. It is super humid in Houston so we have the unit draining into a bucket which he empties daily. It gets 1/3 to 2/3rd full everyday. We have not received out first electric bill since we started the unit, so I am interested to see how it impacts the electrical bill. As a number of you indicated, the fan runs continuously and the condenser kicks on and off to keep the room cool. I hope this unit lasts for many years.

I just bought this fantastic air conditioner. This unit was delivered to my home in 1 day...I was shocked and pleased with the fast delivery. Living in the desert, the temperature outside is quite hot. Having my bedroom on the 2nd floor I receive the brutal afternoon sun which makes my bedroom extremely hot and stuffy. I ran this product and it really, really cooled my bedroom off so that I was able to sleep comfortably. I found it to be quieter than the average window unit. Now I can truly say...bring on the heat, I'm ready.

I have only had this unit for a few weeks. And so far it runs great and cools what I have need for. Some have complained about the noise and I can compare this to other window ac units or those units in a hotel. Sure you know its there but not too loud. I purchased this for two purposes. One to help cool off the garage. Which it has done well. I have this new unit and 1 5000btu window unit. So 13000BTU total. And my garage is just over 1000 sq ft. it does a great job and with both now I can work on the cars and relax in the garage / man cave in comfort. I also purchased this unit to go on my boat in the cabin for short weekend trips to run AC. The boat is 26 feet long and does not have AC. But with this unit I can use the boat generator and this takes no load to run the ac. While I have only started it up on the boat to see what it will run and to test the load on the boat generator. We have not used it out on the water yet. But I think this will work great as I tested it last week when the outside temp was 89 degrees and the boat got to 70 very quickly. So while this unit will be used occasionally in the very hot months of boating I think this unit will work great for my two needs and too help make those nights on the boat comfortable with out spending $2500 on marine ac. And for all of those boat people out there. This unit will do great at cooling off a boat. I have forward and aft cabins and full galley kitchen and bathroom. All of this cools off quickly and stayed cool all day. I plan to test its cooling off potential with the boat and boat with full camper canvas up next weekend to see how that will work and if it will cool everything that is inclosed. Easy to install, effective, and simply an overall brilliant product. First of all, I have awkward, vertical windows; and was at first hesitant not knowing if the window installation would work. Obviously it did! Also, my windows are quite tall, so don't worry about what type of window you have. I have it in my bedroom and usually have it on the dehumidify setting, which takes moisture out of the air. This has helped me tremendously because I have asthma and am a very hot sleeper. My favorite part is to make it face me (since its portable and movable), use the REMOTE :) as needed to switch the settings from low, medium, high, if I may want it to be 65 degrees, or just leave it on auto. I no longer sleep uncomfortably and to me, this was priceless. When I'm not sleeping and its warm, it keeps my bedroom very cool and helps my overall apartment feel less humid. Bottom line -- You need this in your home as well! Good Luck...

Since it is Nov. we just did a test and it seems to be just right for the small bedroom it's going to cool. I will know more when the summer of 2012 rolls around. Nice and small neat size. All 3 units we purchased seem to be easily removed from the window which is great for security when your not at home.

This unit is perfect for a bedroom or room that needs A/C, without cooling the whole house. Just turn it on 20 minutes before bedtime and the room temp is reduced by 10 degrees and no more sleepless nights! It may take some folks awhile to get used to the noise of the unit as it does have an operating noise, but it is a "white noise" and actually helps me sleep. You can't beat the value (performance for cost) of this unit and it is a life saver for me this summer. Costco had a similar unit but couldn't come near the low price of this one from A & W. Pick it up from the warehouse in Santa Ana and save even more.

I purchased this portable air conditioner for a football ticket booth. I easily completed the steps in the manual to assemble the air conditioner and exhaust hose. The Mobil Comfort is extremely easy to move around on the wheels and cooled the area sufficiently and effectively. I loved the remote control for extra convenience! I would recommend this product for anyone needing a portable air conditioner for a smaller area.

It meets every expectation I had and the price was very reasonable compaired to others that I looked at that were reviewed and not rated as highly as this one was.

First time I bought a portable a/c. The reviews are confusing online. I did not have a problem with the install. I am no handyman but it was easy to cut the plastic window strip with heavy duty scissors. I used some duct tape to make sure the vent hose (size of a dryer hose) stays put on both ends. Used an extension chord eventhough the book advises against - hey..what are you going to do. It took a bit but it cooled a small bedroom sufficiently. It was for elderly friends so I didn't want a unit in the window because sometimes they open the window instead. So it did the trick for the price.

Very quiet yet cool and reliable. I have it on my guest room and it is small enough that it looks nice and cools down the room very well.

This unit was really not big enough fir even a very small room, so we had to return it. That involved additional shipping and restocking costs. We bought a smaller window unit and it works great. Beware the promises made regarding this unit.

I read lots of reviews before ordering a portable A/C unit and this one def lives up to its reputation for being one of the best. Very compact size but it REALLY cools a room - I have it in my master bedroom and can sleep under a 3-season down comforter. A little tricky to hook the hose into the adapter ends but just be patient & make sure you line up the ridges on the hose evenly on both sides when twisting on the end bits. I installed the window adapter on a large casement window - cut the extender part to fit and fit the 2 pieces together with 1 screw & used 2 blocks of wood to push it flush to inside sill, then closed window up to adapter edge & sealed the small crack left with clear packing tape - no drilling into the window! With the cooler nights now I just took off the tape to open the window and the adapter still stays in place. Air & Water had the best price & shipped IMMEDIATELY - I even found a coupon online! Very happy with this purchase!

Assembly was a breeze. Out of the box, set-up and cooling in less than 30 minutes. The room we are using it in is approx. 250 sq. feet. It is the perfect size and takes the temperature from 90 to 70 in less than 20 minutes.

It was easy to install and setup. Easy to move from one place to another. Took it to camp and cooled our room. I find it difficult to sleep if my bedroom isn't cool. This does the job!

I have a small, hot guest room with small, awning-type windows, so a regular window air conditioner was not an option. The only way to make the portable AC function was to have a custom "storm window" made with a hole cut the exact size of the oval outside vent piece. Then I swapped the screen with the new window, hooked it up and all was well. NOTE: have a bucket ready. If it's humid like it has been this summer in PA, you will definitely need an overflow container for all the water that accumulates.

It was smaller than I expected which was a huge plus. Cools really well, but would have liked for it to be less noisy and have more features. Automatic shut off and start would be nice once room gets to a certain temp. It does have an auto button, but this only increases temp by two degs. Installation was a bit labor intensive, but not too bad. Easy to drain and clean. Overall pretty good for the price. Biggest drawback is the noise, although it does cool a room sufficiently to turn it off in intervals. Best feature is its size-about half the size of a regular portable ac.

This Unit I purchashed from Air&Water.inc, has been spot on. We have a 33foot fifthwheel, and it only has one air unit in the kitchen,lots of btu's but does not get to my wife and I's beedroom.With this unit we are totally satisfied, especially with living in eastern Washinton desert summers at 90-100 degrees. Bought this for the bedroom but it seems to cool the whole back half of the house. We live in a drier climate (most of the time) and have only had to drain it twice in the month we've been using it. It's not real quiet but I find it to be good "white noise" at night. It's totally worth a little noise to be able to sleep on those nights when it just is too warm and humid to sleep with the windows open. This unit is small and fits into the room without looking like a refrigerator like the bigger units would. (I did find it amusing that the video never once shows the unit near a window or with the venting stuff hooked up.) Very happy with what we got for the very reasonable price we paid and the shipping was very fast!

This unit does exactly what is supposed to do and I have no complaints as of yet except that the unit's exhaust tube does not install as easy as I would like. Other than that I have no serious regrets with my purchase.

This AC was easy to get set up. I had the vent installed and the unit up and running in five minutes. It does a super great job of cooling. Other reviews have said it's noisy, but it's far quieter than window ACs. I have it in my office off the back of my house and it doesn't bother me at all. It's slim and nice looking too. I only wish I would have bought it sooner!

I bought this unit to use in my office because it gets horribly stuffy in the summer. It works very well, and it's much more quiet than I expected. The only issue I have is that, although the unit itself doesn't take up much space, the exhaust tube connected to the window does kill a good few feet because it has to be as straight as possible.

Perfect supplement to evaporative cooler, which performs poorly in humid weather. Even performs well in a large room in an open area. Exhaust is very flexible and adjusts neatly to sliding windows. Installation is extremely easy. It's a real live saver.

It has been working great. A better system for releasing the water from the back or better instructions on how to attach the black pipe in the back should be implemented. Sometimes it does not feel as cold as it should for the temperature reading, but overall it has been great!

I put it in my son's room which gets very warm in the summer and it cools his and my daughter's room which is next to his and the whole upstairs it works better then I hoped.

It is used in an outer office on our dock area. The present duct system isn't supplying enough cooling being the end of the line. This portable unit has done the trick.

I love this unit. I live in Houston where it's very hot and humid. Right out of the box, it was super easy to get up and running. It really does its job and makes the room cold. Sometimes too cold and have had to turn it down! The remote makes it nice and easy to control from across the room. Variable speeds really gives you great control. Bought this for our son to use upstairs when home from college in an otherwise hot upstairs (in summer) - made for a comfortable sleeping area - exactly what we were seeking to achieve for him - actually did more than what we expected - it cooled a second, smaller bedroom as well, all from the one bedroom!

I bought this A/C unit for my middle bedroom in a mobile home without central air. This room is exposed to late afternoon/evening sun and can reach temps in the mid to upper 90's! The KY-80 allows me to sleep comfortably and works great...thank you MobileComfort...!!!

I use it all the time. It keeps me nice and cold. It was easy to install - my husband did it without any problems. I'd buy another one in a second, if I needed another one.

A nice little unit that does what it is advertised to do. My only complaint would be that perhaps more window insulation should be included with the unit.

This is the best air conditioner I've ever owned. I've had 3 different one ranging in price from $1,500 to $800. This one equals the $1,500 one. It truly doesn't know it's only 8,000 BTU's. Great style and dimensions. Two of my friends have already bought them. Performs like a much bigger one and out performs some of the more expensive ones.

The a/c unit is compact and neat. The window kit is easy to install. We have 45 inch windows and this kit is the only one that accompanied the width. The room is about 100 sq. ft. and the unit does a great job to cool the whole area. We were so satisfied with this product that we purchased another product from Air & Water with same results.

It keeps me cool, but it is too loud! Very difficult to sleep with the machine is running.

Bought the KY-80 to dehumidify & cool my bedroom. The unit works well in a 150 square foot room, but this is Maine! In a warmer area, it would be adequate for a smaller room. With the refrigerant compressor inside the room with this type of AC unit, it is rather noisey. We shut it off when going to bed. Well made and works well.

We have put this unit to work during this humid summer weather. It nicely cools off the upstairs and makes it comfortable for sleeping. The only complaint I've had is the difficulty in getting the temperature display switched from Celsius to Fahrenheit. But that's something we can live with! The window vent needed for the unit should be detailed clearly for those ordering - we have some older windows upstairs and it could be difficult for some with similar types of windows to make it work.

After 6 months all seems good. I run it nightly and though it is as loud as a window unit, this is no problem for me because I want to be comfortable. It blows very cold air and seems to have been very well built. At 52 lbs. it is the lightest portable I have found. I would recommend it.

Great cooling machine. Easy setup but it only blows in one directions. Love the timer feature either to turn on or off which is great to make sure you don't wake up in a sweat. All around great for the money. Heavy thing so make sure you have two people to carry it.

Ky-80 is small portable and most of all an Air Conditioner. These were the main features I've been shopping for and Air & Water had it. The headache I was having of finding a way to find a path for the exhaust and to build some sort of device for my window, but the window kit was relieving and quick to install. One small negativity from the unit was missing an indication to how the temperature is in the room.

We like the air cond. Works real well a little noisy but ok.

Unit works perfectly; cools my 225 sq ft sunroom very well (I made an interior window out of plexiglass so that I could use the unit with 6ft casement windows). Remote control is an excellent feature, along with automatic evaporation of collected water. Narrow width is also a good feature along with automatic setting which cycles from cool to dehumidify to fan depending on temperature.

I ordered this for my mother-in-law as she lives in a trailer without air conditioning. She's 87 and it is impossible for her to put a regular air conditioner in a window - I thought this would be best for her. The slim style is perfect for trailers as you never have enough room as it is. She loves it and now my husband and I don't have to worry about her suffering from heat stroke or any other problems.

The unit is very limited in location options. The exhaust hose is too short and is not a standard size. (the support groups won't define it). I've needed one more foot of hose and can't find anyone that carries it. Now the "portable" unit sits on a chair in order to reach the window. How silly

Good product definitely keeps the room cold. I wish it oscillated or something. It's a bit bulky and does take up a window but I can't complain about it making the room cooler. A bit noisy too. The timer feature is awesome though.
