I am using my uninsulated garage as a sewing room office. It is way too cold. I tried to use recycled styrofoam and a small heater but it's still in the 40's. I have faith that with the safety features of this heater and the customer service and return policy, I believe this will be an excellent choice for heating my workspace. I just have to put in a new outlet, which I was told no problem. Looking forward to this product!

Question:
NewAir G56 5600 Watt Electric Garage Heater--Can i use a 220v receptacle with a 30 amp double pole breaker? I have a receptacle thats different from the cord on this heater, so was just gonna put a new end on the cord so it fits.
- Anonymous on 2014-11-17
Answer:
The heater uses a 240V circuit and a 30 amp circuit.
- Christine M. on 2014-11-18
Answer:
The 30amp, 220v breaker is fine but......the receptacle you plan to use is probably rated less than 30amps, fed by a less than a 30 amp wire. The heater draws 30amps so......putting a different plug on the heater cord to match your receptacle isn't going to be proper . Also, the wire from your receptacle to the breaker must be 30amp rated(#10 copper wire). However you solve the problem, keep all the components 30 amp rated. Hope this helps.
- Fred A H. on 2014-11-18
Answer:
Obviously, you will want to match the receptacle configuration to the plug configuration in order to plug the unit in. BUT, make sure the wiring to the receptacle is adequate for the amperage: minimum 10 gauge (copper) for a 30 amp breaker. A quick google search for "amps, wire size" will give you lots of info. If the wire size is too small, you could burn your building down.
- Rick S. on 2014-11-17
Answer:
Hello, from a user of this unit, yes you can change the plug, but it may void the warrantee. 30 amps is more than enough for the unit's requirement. I've used mine for a year, a good unit, a little noisy, but great for my guitar repair shop in my insulated 26 by 26 garage. it gets to 70 degrees F. Very comfortable. Good luck, keep warm. Tony
- Anthony M. on 2014-11-17
Answer:
To be honest, I'm not sure. You need to talk to an electrician for that purpose. All I can tell you is that I have a double garage with an insulated roof and it keeps the temperature of the garage up enough that I can work comfortably in it during winter.
- RICHARD A. H. on 2014-11-17
Answer:
As long as the outlet has the same amount of wires as the plug you should be fine. Some 220 outlets have 3 wire and some have 4
- Jay M. on 2014-11-17
Answer:
You should change the receptacle not the cord cap! Or you can direct wire it and use the breaker as your disconnect means if it is in sight and within 50 feet
- Doug B. on 2014-11-17
Answer:
You can but I would recommend replacing the receptacle rather than the plug
- John C. on 2014-11-17
Question:
Can I use heater for my living room, which is combined with dinning area and kitchen. It is always cold in winter even with Central Heat Pump running?
- Iftekhar A. on 2014-12-26
Answer:
It is a 240v unit and will not plug in to a standard outlet in your house. If you have a circuit available it would work ok but it is not standard
- John C. on 2014-12-26
Answer:
It should heat the space just fine but you will need a 220/240 volt 30 amp dedicated circuit. This is not a 110 Volt device.
- John D. on 2014-12-26
Answer:
Don't see why not. May not be the most attractive heater for the living room but I'm sure it would work.
- Jay M. on 2014-12-26
Answer:
What Fred said is correct. You would have to have a 240 volt, 30 amp line and receptacle installed if you do not already have one. Once that is setup, this unit should be able to cover the room along as it meets the approximately 560 sq ft coverage area.
- Mark S. on 2014-12-26
Answer:
Unfortunately this unit has a 240 volt, 30 amp rated cord and plug. Your living room, kitchen, etc. typically have 120 volt, 15 or 20 amp rated receptacles. This unit needs its own 240 volt, 30 amp circuit and receptacle.
- Fred A H. on 2014-12-26
Question:
Does this eat a lot of electric, does it cost a lot to run?
- D J. on 2015-01-02
Answer:
Don't have heater I have ice machine
- Sherry B. on 2015-01-02
Answer:
I've had my heater about a year and it works great in my un insulated garage for occasional use. I can't tell any difference in my electric bill. My only slight complaint is that it's a bit noisy.
- Steve B. on 2015-01-02
Answer:
This unit uses 5.6 kW per hour and the cost would depend on what your electricity rate is. The US average is 12.58 cents per kWh, which would put this unit at a cost of 70 cents per kWh based on this average.
- Mark S. on 2015-01-02

Answer:
If you are using it to heat up a garage to work for the day, it heats up quickly. If you are using it to maintain a comfortable temperature in the garage everyday, it does use a lot of electricity and can be rather costly.

Question:
Not familiar with plug requirements - not familiar with what a 240v outlet is with 30amp circuit -not electrically inclined. is it a special outlet or standard outlet you'd find anywhere in your home?
- Anonymous on 2015-12-10
Answer:
It is NOT a standard 120V household outlet.. You will need a 240V plug in and a dedicated line for it.. It is a powerful heater tho.. Puts out serious heat
- Joseph B. on 2015-12-11
Answer:
YES, special plug that you can find at home depot and requires 3 wires of at least 10 gauge for the 30 amp breaker. Well worth the effort, heats my 2.5 garage to 80 degrees when temps are in the teens.

Answer:
Hello, As mentioned by these other helpful customers, it is different than the standard 120 volt outlet you would find in your home, though you may have a 240 volt outlet in your garage. We would also recommend contacting an electrician to make sure you have a 240 volt, 30 amp line to use this heater.
- Mark S. on 2015-12-10
Answer:
It is a special outlet. Standard outlets in your home (in the USA) are 110 volts at 15 or 20 amps. Electric clothes dryers are sometimes 220 volts. You will likely need to wire a circuit from your main breaker panel. If you are not electrically inclined, you would need an electrician.

Answer:
The receptacle is the same kind of setup as your electric Dryer. This is a 220/240v outlet. Regular outlet's are 115/120v.

Answer:
this heater takes a special plug, it's own 30amp fuse/breaker and a heavier gauge wiring to handle the load. it will not let me attach photos of what i did. you can contact me at fattire75 at gmail for the pics if you like.
- Michael C. on 2015-12-16
Answer:
240v is found in your home powering large appliances such as your range hvac unit but it is not your normal outlet and 120v used throughout your home. If you do happen to have a spare 240v outlet in your garage it also needs to be on a 30 amp breaker and be the correct spade configuration. Your best bet, do to your limited knowledge of electricity is to find a licensed electrician to give you an estimate to install the proper outlet for this heater. Un hbElectricity is a seriously dangerous item for anyone without experience and can cause great harm fire and even death to the novice.
- Robert J. on 2015-12-10
Answer:
Its not a outlet that one would normally have in their house. You will need to have a electrician install one but it might be costly depending on where your power panel is in relationship to where you want to plug in the heater.
