I was interested in a fan for home use that was more substantial and well-made than the current plastic models usually found, without the high decibel levels of an industrial model. While the major components are metal, and the motor seems hefty, perhaps too hefty for this stand, some of the plastic knobs are quite flimsy. The knob used to adjust the height of the stand actually arrived broken. I was also surprised at the gauge of the fan blades. I have a small metal tabletop fan purchased a couple of years ago which has blades that are probably twice as thick as the cheap blade included with this fan. Despite careful tightening of all components, the fan develops an intrusive vibrational noise at all speeds that comes and goes and makes it inappropriate for the bedroom setting. The motor casing also heats up rather alarmingly although this may be a function of the metal - it's possible that plastic models also get hot but less apparently so. And, ignore the "whisper-quiet" detail in the fan's description; it's substantially louder than other fans I've owned. I tried to do some research about decibel levels but it was difficult to tell if an industrial fan would have been an unbearably loud choice. I would have been happy to spend more had I been able to find a model that seemed to suit the requirements, but, overall, this was the wrong purchase for my needs.
