Question:
does the hose feed fill automatically?
-
Anonymous
on
11-01-2014
Answer:
If a water supply is feeding the Luma (water input is on) then the 10 gallon tank will fill to a full capacity. There is a float almost like the float valve in your toilet, once the water level fills to a certain level the float causes the water valve to shut off. There will be a constant water pressure in the water line to the Luma. When turned on and the water level falls below a certain point the Luma's valve opens and water once again flows to the fill mark inside the Luma tank. If the Luma is not in use for length of time, > weeks, it might be advisable to turn the water off at the water source, just to limit the wear and tear on the Luma's float/valve system, I'm talking weeks of time. Have a great time with your Luma, you have purchased a great piece of machinery. I hope this helps with your experience with your Luma..... Tom

Answer:
Yes it does, but its not a typical garden hose connection. You will need to use the hose barb which is provided and adapt it to your hose.
-
Donald M.
on
11-03-2014
Answer:
That's the way it is supposed to work! I have never used the hose connection because I have my cooler in a garage and just fill it from the garden hose through the fill door. Just a matter of preference for me and where I have the unit. In a dry climate this is a excellent cooler for an area the size of a extra large double garage. I'd buy it again! The only down side is it's a bit loud but any portable unit that actually works is going to be, IMO!
-
Doug P.
on

Answer:
Yes it does. It comes with a plastic fitting and a small piece of tubing. You can buy a garden hose adapter that will reduce the size to fit the tubing.

-
Christine M.
on
11-07-2014
Answer:
Yes, just like a toilet ballcock. depending on the hose you use you may need an adapter, any major hardware store or your local plumber should have what you need.
-
Daniele W.
on
11-02-2014
Answer:
With the hose feed attached to a spigot that remains on, yes, it fills automatically. During the summer, I leave the unit attached to such a spigot, and I never have to add water by hand. The internal float keeps the water level at the appropriate fullness. No issues. Have a good day.

Question:
What is the noise factor for this unit?
-
Bill Okal b.
on
04-21-2015
Answer:
It is a little noisy but it cools fantastically in our dry climate so the it makes the noise factor worth it.
-
Dennis M.
on
04-21-2015
Answer:
It makes the same noise level as your typical indoor, 20" box fan would on low, medium or high. Since it's primary moving part other than a small pump is the 20" fan it houses. So the same noise as equivalent size fan blade.
-
Donald M.
on
04-21-2015
Answer:
Hello Bill,
The noise level for this unit is 68 dB. Let us know if you need anything else.
-
Mark S.
on
04-21-2015
Answer:
Without a DB meter, I can only describe the noise level. Of the 3 speeds, Low is easy to talk over; High is not difficult to talk over but requires a higher than normal speaking volume. On High at close proximity, the noise level is definitely lower than a vacuum cleaner.
-
THOMAS M.
on
04-22-2015
Answer:
The noise level is noticeable on medium and high settings but not overbearing. Small price to pay though for how well the unit works.

The same as any large blade fan...Somewhat loud right next to it..pump noise is nil. a hum, lil water trickling when it's on...used to turn it on and make the ol' lady go to the bathroom on cue.

Question:
with a full tank (11 gallons) of water, how long does it keep coo?? (will I have to get up in the middle of the night to refill the tank?)
-
cheekz
on
06-21-2015
Answer:
Just got my unit, love it, have used outside on deck, in 88 degrees, 80% humidity, and with a full tank it easily ran 10 hours on medium fan setting cool----- I'm very happy, makes a big difference on deck in Texas heat
-
Bradley B.
on
06-22-2015
Answer:
Hello,
It does vary widely depending on the humidity level and temperature where it is being used. If used in low humidity, the air will be able to hold more water and the unit will go through water quicker. Warmer air is also able to absorb more water, so the hotter it is the quicker the unit will go through water as well. You have a few ranges here to compare, but I can also say that we ran a unit at about 30% humidity at 85 degrees and it ran about 7 hours in an open space test in our warehouse.

It all depends which cycle you set before you laying down. The lowest cycle last me through 6 hours,
-
Cassie J.
on
06-22-2015
Answer:
Unfortunately, Cheekz, there isn't a simple 1 line answer. The water supply is affected by 3 factors. Temperature, humidity and air flow. The hotter the temp, the lower the humidity and the increase of air flow will decrease the amount of water. I live on the desert where I have high temp (about 70-80 at night) and the very low humidity. I also use medium speed so my water lasts about 5 to 6 hours. You DO NOT WANT water to run out. It will destroy your pump. The pump is replaceable at about $42.00 and easy to replace. I hope this helps you.

06-22-2015
Answer:
We never had to. We would fill it before going to bed and then again when we left for work in the morning.
-
Debra L.
on
06-22-2015
Answer:
Sad to say - I have no idea how long a tank lasts. My unit is attached to a garden hose to keep it filled. You might see what it would take to have more water available if necessary, like a spare tank on top with a hose down to the connector, or a small refrigerator water line adapted to the hose fitting.
I suppose it's best to fill up the tank and set a stopwatch and periodically check to know if a supplemental supply is necessary for your conditions.

I keep a hose connection attached to mine so I can't give you an answer on that one. I do know if you don't have it where air change over can occur it loses its effectiveness.
