This unit states that it can cool up to 425 sq feet. It is only taking care of 180 sq feet but it has been extreemly hot. I am glad I purchased a larger unit than I thought I needed. No problem with water and have not needed to drain. Could have used a longer window trim kit. Poor user instructions. Does not explain ION button and how manual vs automatic setting operates.

When I received the heater/ac, the temperature was unseasonly cool and I used the "heater" setting to take the chill off the first 2 evenings. It performed well and took the chill off. Within a few days, it became hot and I used the A/C "cool" setting and it cooled my area well. Today the heat is near record temperature, and the A/C is keeping my area cool. The unit is performing sufficiently and doing the jobs that I purchased it to do.

Recently purchased this product for the upcoming hurricane season. This recommendation is based on the initial testing to ensure the unit worked as it was designed to do and found it met expectations so far. Hopefully, we will not have a bad season but anticipate it will function as promised. Only drawback we found was no warranty info so we could register the unit nor a packing list included with the unit, just the shipping label outside of the box. We had to call the company to find out this information (other than what was posted on the website) but not a papertrail of registering the unit or warranty info in writing..

I have used this unit since August 2011 and so far it has performed very well. How well it performs depends on the size of the room you put it in and how well the room is insulated. The bigger the room, the longer it takes to cool it. As far as the heating of the unit, I just started using it and it seems to perform just as well as the A/C on the unit. All though the plastic housing could be a little better quality with deeper handles. I give it two thumbs up for performance. I could not accurately rate the energy efficiency as I have no way to monitor or calculate it. I have seen a few complaints about the exhaust pipe emitting heat back into the room when using the A/C which does sort of defeat the purpose a little. This is due to the thin construction of the exhaust pipe which could also be better as it is easy to split. To solve the heat emitting from the exhaust pipe, take some six inch silver round air duct insulation and slip it over the exhaust pipe before you install it in the window. Problem solved. This works very well.

I've only had this unit for a few days, so it's too soon to fairly evaluate the unit.
I ordered one of these a few weeks ago and when it arrived, it would not power on. I contacted air and water and they shipped a new unit the same day.
The new unit works flawlessly.
Getting a DOA unit is one of our biggest internet order fears. Some companies will force you through warranty service. Air and water stands behind their product and in my case probably ate over $100 in shipping charges to make it right.

The Air & Water sales department is knowledgeable and helpful. I researched the AC12000H extensively and they confirmed what I had learned. The blower is very powerful and has important features without the extra bells and whistles you won't ever use. The unit is noisier than I would prefer but I didn't see any other portable heat pumps with a lower decibel rating. Perhaps offering one more lower blower level would be helpful. I did have a problem with my remote operating correctly but the online RMA form was easy to complete and their phone service was equally accomodating.

I really cannot comment on energy efficient therefore the average rating in that area. I will say the unit was shipped quickly arrived as stated, securely packed, beyond easy to set up and worked with the push of a button. As for appearance it could not have been neater ----I would have liked the exhast to have been designed so that a clamp could be used to hold the exhaust hose more securely.
I bought the unit for my garage I like to work in my garage but the heat with humidity is excessive. The one time I have used it gave me a temperature drop from 89 degrees to 81 degrees in a short while. Not bad at all for a garage area.

We have a HVAC buisness and We bought Two of these units to use as loaners when we cant get a install done quick enough. This Heat wave we had in July/August with heat index's well into the 110 range kept our installers working the overtime. When we ordered these units AIR n WATER had our units shipped out & DELIVERED within the same week (thank you). We unboxed the units and sent the Comfort advisor to the clients homes. I am using this NewAir 12000 AC to cool my 30' sailboat. I have ducted the exhaust out a spare port with a little bit of modification. The heat wave seems to have ended so I haven't required much cooling and have only used the AC a few times. The heat pump did a nice job of warming the boat on a couple of cool mornings. The remote control that I thought I wouldn't use, is a nice feature.
So far, this AC/heat unit has met all of my expectations.

The NewAir AC-12000H 12,000 BTU Heat Pump Portable Air Conditioner is compact and cools very well (albeit a bit noisily but not beyond the decibel level of a standard wall A/C). The only drawback that I've experienced so far (and why I didn't give this product a five-star review) has to do with the installation. Twisting the darn exhaust piping/hose into place is very difficult to do. Air & Water, Inc. should consider shipping the product with the exhaust piping/hose already in some sort of hardware that snaps into place easily.
Other than spending probably five times the amount of time that I should have spent in getting the unit set up, I have no complaints. The unit is working well for me as a supplementary A/C for a very hot attic.

I didn't really think such a small unit could produce enough cool air to justify the price, but I was pleasantly surprised. I had 5 diffrent AC people come to my house to work on my home unit, and every single one mentioned how they were surprised at out well the little portable kept my living room so comfortable. I did hang a blanket to block off the connecting hallway. That helped keep the living room at a comfortable 78.

I bought this a/c to cool my back patio for my cats. It's kinda like trying to cool the outside but on days when it is 104 outside, my patio is 78-80 degrees. Hopefully it will perform as well in the winter months. I did not notice a difference in my utility bill. Because I did not have any windows on my patio, I had to hire a carpenter to install but it looks great.

I'm very happy with the Newair.....Since I live in Boston I'm using the unit primarily for Heating. I have eliminated 2 elect heaters. I now use a max of 1100watts instead of 3000 watts. Saving me a lot of money. I dump the cold air into the basement. In the summer I will dump the heated air into the basement to keep the efficiency high. I don't use the window attachment because I don't want to send conditioned air out of my house.

I received the package within a week of ordering it online and it was packed very well. It was very simple to install (no tools needed). I placed it in a bedroom located in the finished attic of my home (no ductwork or vents) where it gets very hot in the summer. This unit cools it down pretty quickly and it is relatively quiet. In order to test the unit, I ran it continuously for 2 months straight with no problems whatsoever and haven't had to empty the tank once the entire summer! We've had some cool nights recently and I had a chance to test the heating function. It works fine at temperatures above 45 degrees F due to it being a heat pump but, is not effective at lower temps. I found a small space heater to be quieter and more efficient for heating. I am very satisfied with my purchase and would definitely recommend this unit to anyone without the heating function though.

Looking for a a/c unit to cool off upstairs master bedroom cause it's been getting very hot recently so we bought this NewAir 12000H unit. Its been a great buy the room is bout 250ft with valted ceilings, it takes the unit bout 20-30 min too cool the room down to 76degresee. the only problem so far is its a little loud but we have overcome that in exchange for a cool room. So as for this unit its been great so far we'll see how it works for the winter.

The unit works as advertised, puts out real cold air. It arrived in very good condition. I think the double hose design is a better option because it does not rely on interior air to blow out the exhaust. The double hose design brings in air for the compressor and exhausts it, not pulling air out of the house.

This portable AC works great. Even during the hottest days, cools a large bedroom to 73 in 10-20 minutes. You can set a temp and the air conditioner maintains it. I agree with some of the other reviewers. This is a very loud unit because it has more than 10,000 BTU's. This AC does have a sleep setting that I am not familiar with yet. I haven't had any problems with water from condensation, but my area is not very humid. I haven't needed to try the heater on the unit yet. All in all, this AC works perfect for me because my apartment doesn't have central air.

The NewAir Heat pump and AC cools immediately. The temp in the room went from 86 degrees to 79 in less than 5 minutes. It is a little loud but, we use it in a breakfast nook and it works out fine. I probably wouldn't reccommend for a bedroom.

Great great a.c. for my new basement apt. Makes it nice and cold down there, had to rig up the window kit since the basement windows are too small, nothing cardboard and lots of duck tape didn't fix. More on the noisy side but I like the noise to help me sleep. Didn't try the heater yet but the a.c. blows ice cold air. Found the same unit on other websites and were charging over $100 for taxes and shipping, Air & Water, Inc. had free shipping no taxes and even 5% off, def a great buy if you cant have a window unit for your place!!

Bottom line: this unit cools to 77 degrees what would otherwise be an unbearably hot room. It really cranks out the cold air! However, the design of this genre of air conditioner is inherently inefficient since 1)the exhaust air must be drawn from outside into the room you are cooling 2) the very hot air exhaust pipe radiates heat back into the room. These units fill just adequately the niche made when window units and central air conditioning are not possible. In light of its limitations, I am happy with the purchase.

We bought the AC-12000H for our bedroom. We usually keep the house temp around 69/70 degrees. Comfortable for us. The ac bills were high, duh! Anyway after we bought the AC-12000H for our bedroom we keep the house much warmer (cheaper electric bills :-)), and just cool down the room.
It was simple to set up and vent and we even bought a highboy chest of drawers (sans the top 4 drawers) to house the unit.
The noise is about as much as the fan we used to use, so not much in the way of getting used to the units compressor.
Anyway, we give the AC-12000H a five out of five stars!!!

I did some research before purchasing this unit. I found this to be the best, not only is it affordable and perfect for my needs. I live in a 3rd floor unit w/ little to no insulation, it is uber hot in the summer and uber cold in the winter. This unit cover all my heating & cooling needs. I bought this unit to cool down my garage. Its rating and square footage were right at the square footage of my garage, however being uninsulated in the ceiling, it is no match for the blazing 110 degree summers in Arizona. I have now insulated the garage door and will be doing the attic space next in hopes of getting better performance out of it.
As is, the unit takes the temp down about 15-20 degrees. One thing I would recommend is a short run from the back of the unit to where ever you are going to exhaust it. The uninsulated exhaust tube acts like a heater and really cuts counters the cooling effects if you have it extended out. I cut a 6" vent in the side of my garage and used a 6" to 5" reducer to allow me to vent directly outside. Works well.
My last thought is on a shaking the unit seems to have developed after a dozen uses or so. I'm not sure if it was there before, but the unit seems to shake somewhat now like it is unbalanced. Hopefully that is just my imagination!
For inside the house, I recommend this unit...blows cold, comes with a remote and has great features. If you're going to do a workshop or garage, get a window unit or something twice this size in a portable.

WOW! What a great unit. It works extremely well. It cools (and I do mean COOL) a 12X12 room in about 15 mins. I wouldn't recommend this unit for a bedroom or TV room though... It's pretty loud but, works GREAT.

The unit works amazingly well! I have it on the main level of my ranch style home and cools the open area of living room, kitchen, and dining room (1200 sp ft) very well. We are very happy with it and look forward to trying the heat setting this winter in our finished basement. The 4 settings are fantastic between fan, cool, heat and hi or low as well as the ionizer keeping the allergens down in the house. Would highly recommend to anyone. (Noise is a non-issue as all machines like this are noisy and just turn up the TV volume and you don't even notice it).

I wish the hose were just a little bit longer, but that's a pretty minor issue. A/C cools nicely. Haven't had a chance to use the heat yet.

Bought this to cool off the garage in the summer. It works awesome! Doesn't take very long and it cools it down to a comfortable temp. Makes being in the garage a lot more bearable. Better than a swamp cooler because you don't have to hook up water and will still cool when it gets humid. Will have to wait until winter to try out the heat pump. Little too warm right now!

This product is portable, easy to install window vent, and cools like a champ. I have not received an electric bill yet but with the unit in automatic it seems to be very efficient.

The unit is fairly small and sleek and QUIET. Heat and air works great. I use this unit on our back porch that is enclosed and has soft vinyl windows. Cools very well. The only drawback is the window attachment. Could have been larger and slightly longer. Had to rig it on a piece of wood to fit in the window.

The good: I use the air conditioner in my upstairs bedroom. It's a flat roof 2 story, which isn't much fun in the TX heat. I run the unit only at night. It takes the temp from 79 to 72 in about 15 minutes.
The not so good: The unit is about as loud as a hotel split system ac unit, and rattles my floor boards a bit (had to buy rubber caster stands to dull the rattle). It took some getting used to, particularly when the compressor kicks on after just the fan has been going.
Overall: Thumbs up. It's made my bedroom livable again.
