Symphony Winter-XL Portable Evaporative Cooler

I purchased the Symphony Winter-XL from Air-n-Water to help cool our garage. I received this product in two days and pulled it out of the box and was using it in 10 mins. I insulated our metal garage door before purchasing this unit. Our garage is 413 sq. ft. and this unit is rated at 750 sq. ft. more than enough to cool our garage. I keep our garage door cracked about 6-12 inches and the unit cools and lowers the temp. in our garage around 15 degrees w/o using ice. It even works well when we have some humidity. We live in Tucson, AZ. where it gets hot 2 or three months during the summer. I did make one improvement to the unit, so we don't have to worry about the level of the water or having to fill the unit manually. I installed a float in the unit and hooked up a 1/4 inch water line with a 1/4 inch shut-off value connected to our garage utility sink cold water line. It works great!! We don't have to worry about filling the unit with water it's all automatic. Having access to add Ice cubes is also a great feature. There is just my wife and I in the household. We have a Refrigerator automatic ice maker in our kitchin. With just the two of us using ice, our ice maker fills up quickly and we have to dump the ice down our kitchin sink when we get too much ice in our ice tray. Now we save the ice to use in our water cooler. No more wasting ice. It really cools more when we add the ice.

Received the product within ~ 4-5 days after ordering. I pulled it out of the box and it was ready within10-15 minutes. It cooled the area sufficiently and it is really nice to have the option of the swing louvers. Filling the 14 gallon tank with one gallon bottles was the only con I would have with this purchase. Although it was a con it was minimal and I don't regret buying the product thus far.

the only real issue i have had was the fact that i onlyrecieved 2 casters in the oringal shipment. I called and got the other 2, but was never told in needs 5. Still waiting on number 5

I bought this to replace a different Symphony model unit finally rusted out. It's a basic swamp cooler which I need for my greenhouse. It has more plastic inside and less steel, so it should not rust like the other one. I set it, turned it on and it's controlled by the thermostat in the greenhouse. It's not really made to service. The panels are kind of a pain to take off. I put a float valve in it and connected it the the RO system in my green house. Anyway it works good, and I don't have it turned up yet.

It sounds like a jet engine in the room. It has an awful smell if you use it as a fan and not as an evaporator. Filling the unit was difficult until we found a hose that we could use. It has a deposit of water residue on the front from the water being blown from the unit so the unit needs to be cleaned weekly. The rollers are useless on carpet, ok on tile or wood, needed better rollers. If you run it on low, it will not run out of water for 9 hours. I will put up with the smell and noise!! It does help with the hot summer heat so you don't have to use the A/C. I needed it for the moisture and I am sooooo thankful it works so well.

We purchased this unit to cool our shop and has done a great job for us. The material used for evaporation works very well and the air coming out is very cold. It cools a larger area than it was designed for and now looking at getting one for our house as its a lot cheaper to run than our standard a/c

We have a restaurant that gets very hot in the summer & we had a lot of customers complaining. We use this one in our larger dining room and a smaller one for 350sq ft in our smaller dining room & haven't had any complaints since! The noise is no problem for us since it's such a noisy business, but we do fill it with h20 three times a day (it takes about 3-4 buckets full), but it's worth it to have it cooler.

I just recieved my fan today. I was like a little kid on xmas day waiting for the FedEx guy. I did alot of searching , price comparision & this is the fan i choose to buy. I live in Texas so its always hot here in the summer. I bought this fan for my garage where i have a welder , torch & this is the place i commonly enjoy having friends for drinks. I already have two 30" shop fans in my garage , but they only circulate hot air. This fan is great!!! I highly reccomend it!!! I could not be happier , in fact this is the first time i have ever left a response to a purchase.

I live in AZ and need serious cooling for part of the year. This a monster in size as well as noise. You'd think it would do the trick, but the "cool" air amounts to about 75 degrees. No info on maintenance including pad replacement when needed. If you're going to spend this much $$, get a window version!

I got this unit to cool a large warehouse room and it has done quite well even with temps in the 90's and 100's for several weeks. Due to the extreme temps, even the large reservoir on this unit has to be refilled daily, if not more. It is easy to move around and fill up and read the water level. The most important part is also keeping some humidity in my excessively dry climate and cost to run. This pulls nearly no power to run it so it is perfect! My next evaporative unit will be one that can be filled automatically with a valve and hose so that it never goes dry.

i BOUGHT THIS MACHINE WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE HELP...IT DOES NOT COOL EVEN A LITTLE BIT AFTER 20 MINUTES IT SHOOTS OUT WARM MOIST AIR!!! iT IS BUILT GREAT VERY VERY EASY TO USE...NOT LOUD AT ALL.....BUT WHO GIVES A ABOUT THAT STUFF...IT DID NOT COOL AT ALL...NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT!!!!!! I REPEAT DON'T BUY THIS!!!!!

We wanted something smaller than the big ones we orderd last year to cool a smaller area at our family laundromat. It works perfect. Employees love the ease of use and the 15 gallon water tank makes filling time less often. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to cool a area of 750 sq. feet or smaller.

We received NO instructions with the unit. Big water resevoir hard to keep filled but the portability is nice. Seems to cool well enough. Is extremely noisy but most evaporative coolers are.

The advertising for this product indicates that it will cool 900 sq ft plus or minus. The air production for such an area is totally inadequate. Cooling ability no satisfactory except for smallest area.

We use our fan in my work shop and its gets very hot, but with the fan it makes easy to work or just sit and enjoy the day. I usually freeze water for ice in some larger pans and just bust it up to put in the fan seems to work very good

It should be called: An expensive one year DISPOSABLE machine. Nearly impossible to take apart to change pads and absolutely hair pulling to get it back together WITH the nozzles in the correct position and now, in it's 3rd season of 3 months use each year, it is leaking water from under the entire bottom tank, nozzles only hiss and I'm ready to throw it out!

I bought this mainly as a supplement to refrigerated air in the house. My air conditioning removes moisture from the air and this swamp cooler puts it back in. The house is a lot more comfortable now. I live in the desert where the humidity is single digits most of the time, so evaporative coolers work quite well here. I've used it outdoors also. The axial fan in this unit is not as quiet as one with a squirrel cage. It sounds about the same as one of the $15 box fans from Wally World. I would like to see an easier way to clean the pads. The instructions don't say how to do that, so I'll have to figure it out by taking it apart and seeing what's inside. As with most desert environments, the water here has a lot of dissolved minerals that collect on the pads as it evaporates. It would be helpful to have pads that come out for cleaning quickly. The only reason I haven't bought or recommended more of these is the price. This would be a good buy at under $200, but where it's priced now is pretty steep.

Product arrived and did not work because the hose was disconnected from the pump inside the tank, which cannot be reached. No customer service number for symphony. Requires cooling pad change yearly, but you can't buy replacement pads anywhere. Owners manual totally insufficient.

The devise is amazing and very easy to handle. I think you should know the staff of the company who handled my order was also amazing and so very helpful. I pestered her for days trying to make my decision to purchase and without her helping I would have missed a great little machine. The only difficulty I have is filling it, I do use a garden hose with a shut off nozzle. It is very easy to move even when full with the 14 gallons of water. Everyone that sees it just thinks it is great also and so protable even thogh it is big..Great product......diann

Easy to use. No assembly require except the leg coaster. It seems to cool the room in one direction where it is facing straight instead of cooling the entire room evenly side by side. Still not sure how to clean it after summer is over. There's no instruction booklet that came with the unit , only one piece of paper which was confusing because it didn't match the unit I got. Otherwise I like it as it cools decently. This is the best so far of all similar products I tried.

I purchased 2 of these units. We are opening a restaurant in Claremont NH and use these coolers to keep cool while finalizing the installation of equipment. They work well in this climate. Our painters thank us every day, because we have not installed an A/C system. We highly recommend purchasing from Air-N-Water. Professional and quick service.

Purchased the Symphony Winter-XL from Air & Water, Inc. and it arrived as promised in short order. No assembly required (except wheels) so it comes right out of the box, ready to use. I would say it works really great although it will cool as large an area as advertised, just not as well as if you stick to using it to cool an area smaller than advertised. We use ours in the master bedroom (large room) and it keeps it very cool in the single room, assists the central a/c in the rest of the house good enough to set it a couple degrees higher as well. Thinking about purchasing another unit to split the difference in the house and this unit works better than a wall mounted swamp cooler as it doesn't draw warm air in from the outside to mix. Very happy with our purchase.

It does a great job of keeping my 700 square foot living area cool. As with all evaporative coolers, "keeping" is the operative word ? turn it on before the temperature starts to rise because it won't do much to cool an area that is already too warm. Filling by hauling 1 gallon water bottles from the kitchen sink to the cooler became unappealing rather quickly, so I devised a means to fill it without that inconvenience. All you need is a garden hose adapter to fit the faucet, another adapter from garden hose threads to 1/4" barb, and whatever length of 1/4" ID vinyl tubing necessary to reach from the faucet to the cooler. The faucet/garden hose adapter and tubing should be available from your local hardware store, and if you're lucky, so will the garden hose to 1/4" barb adapter. Living in a small town, I wasn't so fortunate and had to order the latter on the Internet. I calculated the flow rate through the tubing by measuring the time it took to fill a 1 gallon bottle. I've no idea what the water pressure is in my home, but the flow rate was about 1.8 gallons per minute through 30 feet of tubing with the faucet wide open. The cooler can thus be filled from empty in a little more than 7 minutes without having to lug 14 one-gallon jugs of water. Care must be taken to watch the water level gauge and turn off the water before it flows out of the back of the unit. With about 5 to 7 gallons per day usage, I'm careful to never reach the "Full" indication on the rather crude gauge, and I placed a plastic tray under the overflow outlet to catch water if something goes wrong. For the price of this cooler, a water line connection and float valve should have been provided. Every toilet with a water tank has this feature, and the replacement hardware cost is less than $10 retail. The "Owner's Manual" covers 14 different models, and is a waste of paper! It doesn't even mention the water level gauge and offers little advice on how to properly use an evaporative cooler. Is it necessary to drain the cooler at the end of the cooling season (probably a good idea to minimize mold and mildew), and if so, how best to do it? What replacement parts are available? How often should the cooling pads be replaced and how is that task done? Might it be best to run the unit for a few minutes at the end of each day with the pump turned off to dry out the pads and thus reduce the possibility of mold and mildew? I really love this cooler, and hope that this critique will help others and will result in improvements to the product.

We bought this to help cool a large space approximately 700 to 900 sq ft. This unit does a great job cooling it off. We keep one garage door open all the time and have this unit blowing in the other direction and it works like a charm. The air blows quite a distance and it can even get a bit cold on the cooler days so we just run the fan on those days. Filling it is a little awkward but is not that much of an issue. The large capacity tank is a life saver for our purposes. We are very pleased with our purchase.

This unit is poorly designed and functions poorly. It is advertised as 3000cfm but it doesn't blow as hard as the 2000 cfm units I am going back to. The cooling pads it uses deteriorates quickly and within days both units I bought were spitting brown water out the front. While they work ok they are no better than the cheaper 2000 cfm units and they are built with less quality and workmanship. Plus the entire area in front of the units and the whole front of the unit has turned brown from the nasty cooling pad deterioration.

It's a bit expensive and our hard water is quite hard on the aspen evaporation media, which as resulted in it being a bit less efficient over the past couple of months, but overall a good unit.

The portable evaporator cooler is working out much better than I thought it would. I have a big garage and it cools it really well. I would and have recommended the cooler to others. I have been very happy with it. Thank You . . .

Seems to work OK, but for greenhouses it isn't quite powerful enough and needs to be filled at least once a day. Could benefit from a hose connection.

et up Cooler in our two car garage. Husband could not work in garage due to 110+ heat. While we can notice better cooling on days when humidity is not real high (monsoon season in AZ), it consistently drops temps by at least 10-20 degrees on days when rain is not due. That's ALOT when August and Sept temps are over 110! Cannot wait to use next May/June when we have hot dry winds. Easy to fill with small bucket and cools quickly. Could not find any instruction manual though. Online manual is generic for entire line. Also, don't know if pads need to be replaced and where to buy. Air-n-Water was great! Called me to confirm my address when order through PayPal deleted some of my address. Arrived earlier than expected in great shape. It has made garage so comfortable my husband is now building me a workbench in the garage so that I can do my stained glass work in the garage.

This unit works real good with the garage door up about 12''.The garage is usually too hot and now it's around 70 degrees really cool. It uses around 14 gallons of water a day no problem I just use a hose and refill in a few minutes.

I saw an Evaporative Cooler at a warehouse/food/big store and did not know what they were, so I went on-line and got the explanation. I then check to see what stores may carry them in the Seattle area, their was 1 national hardware store listed so I went there to see what they had to say about them. I was told they do not work with the weather in Seattle, and they suggested to go with the portable air conditioner that comes with the "dryer-hose" vent for the window. I live in a condominium and we had talked if we would allow owners to have that on the windows or not, but I really didn't want to block the window, my cats love and I love to have the windows open. So, I ordered Symphony Winter XL and also the smaller Symphony unit. They are GREAT! I place the big in the back of the condo unit in the hallway, and the smaller one in the living room. I even took the smaller one to work with me to show them how nice they are. My boss bought a unit for his house. I also told a neighbor about that lives on the 3rd floor, and he bought one too. The large unit is a bit bigger in size then I thought it would be, but, it makes it nice and cool, even on the days when it hits 90 degrees or more.

The cooler is not portable even though it has "wheels". My car also has wheels. The instruction manual should be rewritten by someone other then a "technician". After it is broken in - the pads get sufficiently wet, it works very well and does cool off the greenhouse on those 90 days.

This unit performs very well in the dry environment of the desert. It will only cool one large room at a time, so don't expect more. The large tank allows for cooling over a long period without having to refill. A more detailed instruction booklet would be helpful regarding how near to a window it should be. I am very pleased with the cooling it has provided. Delivery was very prompt (arrived the next day).

We are very pleased with the cooler. We live in the high desert in Oregon, and the air is very dry, the summers hot. Fans just don't cut it, and air conditioners just dry the air out more. The evaporative cooler gives us the comfort of a cooler home, plus the addition of much needed moisture. I have recommended this cooler to everyone whenever we get into discussions about the heat, which happens a lot! The only corrective feedback we have is regarding the plastic cap over the area where you fill it with water. This plastic and the plastic clasp holding it will (I'm guessing) not hold up eventually to the amount of times it will need to be opened and closed for re-filling. Love it otherwise ... Thank You !

Very efficient and the large water capacity is key for over night cooling.

My husband and I put on USA Baseball Tournaments here in the Vegas Valley and it tends to get a "bit" dry and hot during some tournaments while we are camped out at the park all day. We purchased an evap cooler from a local company which helped but not enough. I came across the Symphony Winter-XL and thought we would give it a try. It is wonderful. The swinging louvers and four sided cooling pads really distribute the air and gives it a wide range of cooling power. We also use it at home on our patio so we can enjoy the summer nights which is otherwise intolerable in our dry heat. We would recommend it to anyone.

Seems to work as advertised. Cools a large room nicely. Problems are it is hard to fill with a garden hose without overflowing. If you opt not to use a hose it takes a long time filling it with a pitcher or what ever you use. There is no water level gauge on it. It's guess work if you have it filled completely or not shy of it overflowing onto your carpet. Also when the water level is low and you're not around to fill it immediately it has an unpleasant odor coming from the drying fiber mats inside the unit.

I have an office on the top floor of a five story building, with plate glass windows all around that face south and west. If the temperature goes above 90 degrees on a sunny day, it can get pretty hot and stuffy in the late afternoon. I've been having problems with the central air conditioning all summer and was ready to try anything that might help. Since these conditions seemed hot and dry, I figured it might work. The Symphony Winter worked properly when I plugged it in, although I almost overlooked the wheels hidden at the bottom of the box. It cools a 400 square foot room by about 15 to 20 degrees, so the room is comfortable on hot days, and bearable on very hot days. The air does feel more humid, like being outside on a cloudy day. Although you cannot put ice into the bucket, you can pour ice water into it. The only caution that I might suggest is that in an enclosed space the air can start to feel stuffy. I think that this is due to the quality of the water - distilled water would probably be better than tap water. At any rate, I now have usable office on hot days even if the central air is not working properly (and it costs much less!)

It is made entirely of plastic including casters which I feel is not good when I fill it with water. The reason I purchased this model is because it holds 14 gallons of water. There is not a large enough place to put ice so that's not an option although they advertise you can put ice in it. Huge disappointment. I would not recommend this model.

Order arrived when they said it would. Didn't even have to put it together. Put the wheels on , filled it up & plugged it in. This thing works great! The 14 gal. tank is awesome. We placed it in front of a open door which helped a lot. The open window didn't seem to cool as well. I put ice water in while filling the tank for instant cooling. Great product. We are thinking about buying the smaller model for the other side of the house!

Living up above Lake Sonoma where the heat climbs up over 100 everyday in the dead of summer. Living off grid this machine is a life saver! Uses very little power and keeps us cooler than ever before!

Does the job. Sometimes puts too much humidity in the air but when that happens, you can just run the fan part.

We purchased the Symphony Winter-XL Portable Evaporative Cooler to help cool one work station in an unconditioned warehouse in South Carolina. The unit did not cool well. I believe that our high humidity kept the unit from providing the evaporation that would have helped cooling. Also, the unit was undersized, not providing much blowing velocity. Part of that was our problem, trying to save money, when we could have started with a larger unit. Overall, the unit may work well in other, drier areas. We returned the unit and the returns process worked well.

I set my cooler in my shop just like directed and we could feel no difference.

My satisfaction is tempered with a suggestion. There is a conflict between what the User Manual and your Customer Service advice... plus the Manual gives very little effective information. I explained it to one of your rep's and he agreed and said he would take my message forward... the detail is too much to include here...the product itself is very satisfactory and I have already shared this with several of my friends...

I have no complaints at all, it works great and does the job in our hot warehouse. Most important the air-in-water cares about there customers, that was a very important part of this purchase.

I have bought many portable evap coolers through the years, to help my electric bill stay down during peak season. This Winter-XL is beyond the best I have ever come across. I would settle for no less then this evaporative cooler. Really gives off blast of cold air, works through my entire home. I just love this product.

Cheaper than central air. Keeps our home at a comfortable 76 degrees when it's around 100 degrees outside. Without the Symphony our house reaches 85 to 90 after the hot day is done. Easily cools down any space in our house and/or entire main level. Water tank when filled will last over 14 hours. Great portability.

At first I thought it was a bit big, and I placed it in front of my patio doors, but, that did block my view, I then thought of returning it and getting 2 of the smaller units, I bought 1 large and 1 small one, but, then I listened to both separately, and the smaller one makes as much noise as the big one. So, I moved this unit to my dining room, not by a window and it still works so well I need to turn it off some because I too cold, and I like my room at 65 degrees or lower.

Great product. It is quiet, fast and economic.

The quality on this AC compared to the two other I bought and retuned to Lowes and Target do not even compare. The Winter XL is built very well. I use it in my garage for my smoking area. It works very well as long as it does not get too humidid. If the humidity is high of course it does not work very well but I just use the fan without the water pump. I like the product.

My little R2 D2 works just fine. It cools my rather large bedroom quite nicely. The only complaint I have is that it takes forever to fill using my 2 quart tupper ware jug. I can use my garden hose but have to worry about overfilling and making a mess on my carpet. If the unit had a manometer on it (gauge to show how much water was in the reservoir) it would make it just about right. Thanks for cooling my hot bedroom.

This unit cools the room well but spits water on the floor and soaks my carpet. Very disappointing.

We were going to use the cooler for our garage. Heaven forbid the T-Bird get too hot here in Las Vegas. It is in my computer room. Every day between 12 and 2 the sun beats my computer room, but not any more. It's wonder full to run it just a few hours a day. It pretty, easy to use and not all that loud. Great price and great quality. Thank you to your customer service helped an old lady out.

This product works wonders! It does make some noise, but I have learned to put it behind my TV, and I can hear just fine, I just know, that my electric bill will love this product too. This baby, when used with good ventilation, gets down right cold. It cools the biggest portion of my home. I am so happy to have found this product. I just love it. And I especially love the money I save from not having to use my Central air.

Product arrived on time. Quiet and easy to use. Only thing is that I was hoping that I could be able to add ice rather than crush ice but it's good.

Not sure how well it cools an entire apartment but the unit seems well built and I am happy with the purchase.

We really do like this machine very much.It made our AC in the summer work alot less,and it felt just as comfortable. We really like the large water tank.ONly thing is,I wish the ice containment area was larger,to cool the entire tank of water,instead of the small area it is . Yep,I like this company alot,and will keep the business connection!

To add humidity, and make the main room of the home seem cooler. Also a bonus might be to ease the electric bill! Just fine! My orchids really like it. So do my labradors! So easy to put together. Literally a ""snap""! We live in a very dry area, so adding humidity has helped our skin, and allergies, not to mention the cooling effect.

I bought the Winter swamp cooler. It does a very nice job of keeping my house cool. I have an older, 1026 sq. ft. house and there isn't that much circulation. This swamp cooler does a great job of keeping my home cool. I would absolutely recommend this product to others; in fact, I have already recommended it to my granddaughter.
