Nice product but be aware of the program settings -- not a true 5-2
I had a Robert Shaw programmable thermostat in my old house and loved it. When I moved into my new house I picked up a programmable at a local big box. Bad idea. When the time came to replace it, I went back to Robert Shaw. My needs are minimal and the 9600 seemed to meet these needs. After installing it - a fairly straightforward job except for some tiny set screws for the wires - I went to program it. It is advertised as a 5-2 but I soon discovered that there were no separate programmable settings for the weekend days. Instead, the weekday start and stop times and temperatures simply transfer to the week ends. All the weekend settings do is eliminate the usually morning temperature rollback and the usually late afternoon temperature increase. I don't know about the internals of such thermostats, but I'm guessing it would not be terribly expensive to add the full weekend programming feature. Since I had already installed the thermostat, I now have to live with it. Not really so bad since it is quite accurate. I do still have to keep the programming instructions close at hand though. This thing is not intuitive to program.
In the end, I would recommend this thermostat. Just be aware of the programming corner-cutting.

Have upgraded the residence with the RS-9600 and enjoy the 24/7 care free comfort of the programmed controls. I also envision energy conservation as an added bonyu. Will monitor the cost over the next six months and compare to the same period of last year.

I now use the Robert Shaw 9600 Thermostat, and I just bought this same model as a spare because who knows when this model will no longer be available. It has a temperature differential that you can set, and some more modern models from other manufacturers do not have this feature, so they cause your HVAC system to cut on and off VERY often in order to keep your ambient temperature in a range that is less than one true degree, plus and minus.
The face of this thermostat also stays lighted so that I can see what the temperature and settings are as I just walk by and look at the thermostat. With many of the more modern models, you have to push a button to backlight the face before you can read the temperature and settings.....you can't just walk by and see them easily. Not everything that gets "improved" is better.

I like the accuracy of this product. I like the compact style and the way that it is programmable. I've never had a thermostat be more accurate. Every time I move to a new location I always replace the thermostat with a Robert Shaw.

I was looking for a direct xmlnsnt for my Maple Chase Thermostat and found out that it cross-referenced to the Robert Shaw RS-9600 for a fraction of the cost. Installation and programming were a breeze and it works beautifully!
