I bought my first Soleus LX=140 in May and found that it cools beautifully. My first electric bill was much lower than I expected so I was very please. With the temperatures reaching the 90s now, I needed a second one to cool the entire apartment. I'm looking forward to using the heat function this winter since the apartment has only baseboard heat and last winter this was murder on my electric budget. If the units heat as well as they cool, I should be much better off this coming winter.

After lots of research and reading reviews on several websites, I decided this product best fit my needs at a reasonable price. If expense was not an option, I would have gone with one of the split air/heat units but they start at more than twice the price of this unit. It seems to have everything I would want - 14000BTU's air and heat, dual hose system, great dehumidifier and I'm hoping the noise level is as comparatively low as others have stated in reviews.

Question:
Can you operate this unit without having the drain hose connected to a window? How often does the tank need to be emptied without the drain hose connected? Chuck P
- chuck p. on 2014-04-13
Answer:
Yes we use it with out the drain hose. The water is collected in to the base of the unit. There is a drain plug that we loosen and catch the water into a bucket. This IS tricky because the unit is heavy when full of water. It takes two people. We balance it on top of the bathtub edge when we undo the drain plug. Good news is that we only have to drain it about every 3 + weeks or so. The unit does have a full water indicator in which I have never seen lite. We can tell it needs to be empty by the coolness of the unit. This is the best thing I have ever bought and honestly don't know how I lived without one. Living in Massachusetts
- Lisa B. on 2014-04-14
Answer:
We are in a pretty dry climate (Montana)and do not have the drain tube hooked to drain. We never empty the drain pan. The evaporation system in the unit keeps up.
- Mark S. on 2014-04-14
Answer:
With the "Evaporative technology that increases cooling efficiency and reduces condensate accumulation in the unit's tank" that is advertised in the description I have NEVER had to empty the built in reservoir. Even after nearly a year of almost continuous use in a moderate to moderately high humidity environment. I am VERY happy with this unit and it is one of the best purchases I have ever made.
- Natalie T. on 2014-04-14
Answer:
I never got one drop of water out of the tank. Apparently, all the moisture must be getting out through the exhaust hose. This is a good thing.
- Dan M. on 2014-04-13
Answer:
I have not connected the drain hose or checked the tank for that matter but we usually do not use the unit for than 12 hours at a time and it is not that often that we use it more than two days in a row. We have this unit on our enclosed patio with lots of windows and overhead fans so it has to be really hot for us to use it. I will say the dual hose design works well for us. the first unit we had was a single hose and that did not do anything in that room. I think it created a negative pressure that sucked hot air in.
- Paul A. on 2014-04-13
Answer:
Chuck this unit has its own built in evaporative system, there is no drain hose.I have had this for over a year and love this unit.
- vic a. on 2014-04-13
Answer:
Never had to drain it,I hook up both hoses to the window. You have to have the exhaust hose going outside,it has a water circulation pump inside that pumps the condensation water over the condenser so it evaporates it,Thanks. I have 2 of them one for the bedroom and one for the living room,LOVE them!
- Vince B. on 2014-04-13
Answer:
It all depends on the humidity in your particular area. I live in North Dakota, the air is generally dry. I've had two of these units for years and have never used the drain hose, any accumulated moisture is vented out the air vent hose as moist air. The water drain hose is very low on the unit and would have to be drained into a 1" pan, it could not be drained out a window, if draining was required in a very humid area like Florida. The unit would turn off, if the drain pan got too full in a humid area.

Answer:
Yes it will. Have had this for about a year and my family have really enjoyed it.
- Leo W. on 2014-04-30
Answer:
Yes, it uses 110. It is a wonderful unit. My only caution is to make sure your total square-foot space measurement is well within the maximum that the unit can handle. It's an exercise in futility to try to heat/cool an area too large for the unit .
- Nadine S. on 2014-04-30
Answer:
Yes only a 110 grounded outlet is needed. We added a 3 foot long "appliance grade" grounded 110 extension cord for our needs.

Question:
How does the hoses fit in the window and how does it seal off outside bugs from getting in?
- Anonymous on 2014-05-03
Answer:
I have not yet hooked up my air conditioner. I will be able to answer your question by the end of June after using it for one month.
- June Y. on 2014-05-03
Answer:
The hoses connect to a heavy plastic strip that fits in the widow. As far as bugs, I affixed a piece of screening to the outside of the strip to keep bugs out when not in use. I think there is a picture of the window connector in the website.
- Edward S. on 2014-05-03
Answer:
The hose is connected to rectangular piece that fits in the window frame.. Or you can cut down to size if needed. Or expand with included extension. I have a window screen in-between it and the outside that keeps insects out when the window is open. It doesn't interfere with the screens.
- Joan W. on 2014-05-04
Answer:
We have up and down sliding windows. We have a screen on the window and the hoses fit perfectly between the window and the screen. It was easy to install and works great wtih the up and down sliding windows. They sealed nicely. We really like this unit. I searched a long time and read many reviews. This is a good one. We use it for our upstairs master bedroom and it has enabled us to keep the lower level a little warmer and not so cold in order to cool the upstairs.
- Shauna B. on 2014-05-03
Answer:
The hoses I feel will fit any window. When I bought the unit I had some rubber window strip so without the rubber window strip I am not sure however with the rubber window strip no bugs are getting in (I pressed it down tight and locked the window.) Works great.

Question:
How long is the electric cord? Is it safe to use an extension cord with it?
- JC L. on 2014-06-22
Answer:
The instructions say not to use an extension cord. It has a three pong socket and sucks up a lot of energy. the cord is approx. 5 ft.
- Jesus D. on 2014-06-22
Answer:
The cord is 6 feet long. I wish it were longer. I use a heavy duty extension cord . The kind of cord you use on a washer, dryer, and refrigerator. This item works very well in both winter and summer.
- joseph g. on 2014-06-22
Answer:
JC: the cord is 6-ft. long. I do not believe an extension cord is advisable unless, perhaps, it is one of those super heavy duty orange ones. Also note that this a/c is VERY noisy, large, heavy, hard to move on carpet. It cools ok but consumes a lot of power.
- JAMES H. on 2014-06-22
Answer:
The cord is approximately 42" to 48" long. I would not recommend using an extension cord, but would defer that question back to the manufacturer.
- William Y. on 2014-06-22
Answer:
Hey, what's going on JC? JC you cannot use an extension cord it needs to be plugged directly into an outlet. The cord is about 6feet long. So try to have it close to an outlet if possible. Have a great day.

Yes.
- Ayodele A. on 2014-09-15
Answer:
Yes. . all hoses, window attachments, easy read installation info are all included.
- JOAN S. on 2014-09-17
Answer:
It comes with two hoses. One intake and one exhaust that both vent out the back to a window. IF you mean a hose for the dehumidifier function the answer would be no. I don't even know if you can connect a hose for that. I don't use it to dehumidify. WHen I tried that there got to be condensation all over the unit so I turned it off.
- Paul A. on 2014-09-15

If you mean the ducting intake/exhaust hoses that connect to the window, then yes it does come with them. They have plenty of slack too, you can extend them quite far from the window.
- Christopher S. on 2014-09-16
Question:
Why are the exhaust hoses required?
- Dennis L. on 2015-02-15
Answer:
This unit acts like any air conditioner, but it is located completely inside the room. The unit is placed by a window, as it blows cold air into the room the heat that is in the room needs to be vented out the window. Just like a refrigerator, cold inside, warm in the back of the ref. Most window air conditions are in the window area, blowing heat out cool air in.
- Dale M. on 2015-02-15
Answer:
This type of unit requires hoses to operate. No getting around it. I don't remember the specifics, and sorry, can't spare the time to look for the instruction booklet which gives info.
- Nadine S. on 2015-02-15
Answer:
So the heat can be transferred to the outside
- Eleanor N. on 2015-02-15
Answer:
My exhaust hoses do the following: One hose exhausts inside stale & humidity saturated air and the other hose brings in fresh outside air. You can control the intake of outside air with by using an attached vent cover which limits or increases the recirculation of inside air.
- Michael S. on 2015-02-16
Answer:
The unit creates hot air while running as an air conditioner and the hot air is exhausted through the hoses which is directed toward the outside via an exhaust portal. I have never used it as a heater but I do recall the instructions recommending the use of the exhaust hoses, same as the air conditioner. Hope this helps.
- Lisa B. on 2015-02-17
Question:
WINDOW VENTING ?
- Anonymous on 2015-05-09
Answer:
No way out of it. But it has all the required parts for windows that slide up and down or sideways. Just be sure you don't have greater square footage than the unit will serve.
- Nadine S. on 2015-05-11
Answer:
Yes, a dryer duct is provided, and grid plate, to dump the hot air that is extracted from the room.
- Dale M. on 2015-05-10
Answer:
Yes, it is definitely needed. One hose brings outside air in, dumps the waste heat into it, and the other exhausts the heated air out. The cold air being blown inside the room is totally separate from the outside air.
- Eleanor N. on 2015-05-10
Answer:
Yes, you need to vent this unit through a window.
- CECILIA P. on 2015-05-21
Question:
I have it in dehumidify mode and the fan is the only thing running also there doesn't seem to be any set point for humidity level is it just on or off?
- Keith F. on 2015-06-20
Answer:
I had mine running 24 hours per day in all weather conditions and in all modes for more than a year in Central California without any problems what soever, and now it's in the Arizona Desert at my sons house doing double duty... But to answer your question, As I remember it: In Dehumidify mode it's just ON and in this mode you will notice that the room will get Cooler as the moisture is extracted.. Also, as you know, AC mode greatly DeHumidifies a room.. And there's the Away From Home (automatic) mode that keeps the Room Temperature between a certain range and also DeHumidifies.. I don't have the manual in front of me but if you have one it will explain how the different modes work.. If there's high humidity you made need to unplug the drain tube or vent it to some place where it drain freely.. The most important thing that I could tell anyone about this unit is to run it as a "Dual Duct" system Not Single Duct and with the small solid plastic door in place on the rear of the unit.. This will prevent the Room Vacuum Effect from occurring, where outside air is sucked into the room under doors, around windows, and through wall outlets... Hope this Helps You... RG
- Richard K. on 2015-06-20
Answer:
I can only tell you what I think is happening. As the fan runs, the air is run through the dehumidifying process. If you have an overflow pan, you can check that for water which can accumulate when air is very humid. Go to the manufacturer for specific information. Go online to dehumidifier to find out how the process works in general. Good luck!
- Nadine S. on 2015-06-20
Answer:
As for as I know, yes. Mine does the same thing.

Question:
is it possible to clean the inside of the unit?
- evva f. on 2015-09-29
Answer:
I only clean the filters and the outside of the unit. I cannot answer your question about the "inside" of the unit. Since water is evaporated through the two hoses, I never worry about any stagnant water within the unit itself.
