- Colleen H. on 01-06-2015
Cost and low noise, small space. However, last 1.5 years then stopped working (the circuit board went out, not it just cycles on and off).
- Robert P. on 03-26-2015
Can it be mounted under the counter?
- Anonymous on 2014-08-03
This is classified as a freestanding cooler so it is not meant to be used under a counter. The NewAir owner's manual is bare bones and does not mention anything about required clearances on the sides or back of the wine cooler but her is some info I found on the internet: What would happen if I installed a freestanding wine cooler under my counter? A freestanding wine cooler is designed to dissipate heat from the back, so this heat cannot escape from an enclosure and eventually will overheat the unit. This overheating will in turn noticeably decrease the cooler's ability to maintain its internal temperature and cool your wine. The unit???s compressor will attempt to overcompensate for the overheating unit and may eventually burn itself out. At the very least you run the risk of shortening the cooler's overall lifespan as the compressor is continually overworked. You also run the risk of invalidating the manufacturer???s warranty by operating a freestanding unit in a built-in space. Are there any options that will allow me to install a freestanding unit under my counter? Yes, if you allow sufficient space around the unit for the heat produced during operation to properly dissipate you will be able to install a freestanding unit into a built-in space. We strongly suggest leaving a gap of 2 to 3 inches on each side of the cooler as well as on top and in the back to create the needed airflow around the unit. You will not be able to achieve a true built-in appearance with these gaps but this should allow you to utilize a freestanding unit within a built-in space.
- Martha S. on 2014-08-15
No. It must have at least 3-4 inches of clearance all around it for the exhaust.
- Nancy W. on 2014-08-04
It could go under a counter, but you need to allow at least 5" on each side for adequate air space/cooling. It's not really the "built-in" kind of wine cooler. It looks great free-standing on it's own though!! Hope this helps.
- Dawn D. on 2014-08-03
Mounted? I'm sure it can sit under the counter or on something to make it higher , it's metal siding doesn't seem to be able to be mounted I'm unsure.
- Lisa H. on 2014-08-03
Mine is built-in to a cabinet. However, I had to remove the steel back plate, cut vent holes in the cabinet (in a location that isn't seen easily), and buy a small fan directed at the back-side electronics. It has a tendency to over-heat when enclosed, so then the interior won't drop to the set temperature. After I did all that, it works perfectly, even when fully stocked.
- Layne S. on 2014-08-03
It's probably too heavy to mount directly to a counter. You could build custom brackets to hold it but I wouldn't recommend trying to attach it directly. It runs very quiet and maintains temp well. Hope that helps. Tim
- Timothy H. on 2014-08-03
Theoretically it could, however the problem I see with that idea is that you need to have 2 inches of clearance in the back for airflow. If you were going to enclose this in a line of base cabinets, it would not be recommended based on the instruction booklet that is very clear about the 2 inches of space.
