I have a closet that I want to keep above freezing. I am currently using a 200W heater that has a fan. The problem with heaters that have fans is often the fan will quit when used to keep an area just above freezing. I also don't like using high wattage heaters in a small space like a closet so this 400W unit should work well.

It looks thin and light weight. We have an old house with lots of small rooms which most of them aren't used most of the time. We didn't want to heat up the entire house to 68 degrees when we are only using one or 2 rooms. Portable space heater is a great solution.

Question:
Where is The NewAir AH-400 product manufactured? USA (I hope) or China? Are any of your space heaters made in America?
- Maryann F. on 2014-11-20
Answer:
The AH-400 is manufactured in China as are the rest of the NewAir space heaters.
- Mark S. on 2014-11-20
Question:
The directions say to place this heater at least three feet away from any wall, furniture, etc.; however, the unit looks like it was designed to fit up against a wall. Has anyone had problems when placing this against a wall?
- Cynthia B. on 2015-02-05
Answer:
I have this heater placed under my desk directly against the wall & I've never had any problem with it. It has a thermostat & works great! It keeps my legs warm & I love it.
- Cheryl S. on 2015-02-05
Answer:
We use ours in an RV, where there is not much space to leave anything that far away from anything. We have used it well within 3 feet of a wall, though I cannot say that it was right up to the wall, maybe 6-10" away. It really does not get that hot, in my opinion, but it does a good job of letting off heat for a small area.
- RICHARD Y. on 2015-02-05
Answer:
We have had two of these in our unseated office for years. We keep them as close to the wall as the feet will allow them go. However, we keep them on a low setting most of the time. I never leave them on high when I'm not home.
- Bette A. on 2015-02-05
Question:
Can this heater be mounted on a wall ? Does it turn off it you tilt it. Reason being is because I was thinking of mounting this on the ceiling of my dog kennel. The closed in portion of the kennel is 4 feet high by 6 feet long. Is this big enough to provide warmth in that amount of area?
- kimcatal on 2015-11-24
Answer:
Hi Kim I use this heater under my desk in an open floor plan. It keeps my feet toas ty and I think it would heat your space well. However, When I lay the heater over, the thermostat goes off but comes back on when I set it upright. Since it does shut off, you would not be able to mount it flat against the ceiling nor could you put but directly against a wall as it needs a little ventilation on the back. I like this type of heater because I have a dog and I don't have to worry about her fur burning like other types of heaters. Hope this helps! I love my little heater.
- Nancy R. on 2015-11-25
Answer:
Hello, This unit does have a tip over switch. We do not recommend mounting this unit to a wall, as this unit should have a bit of clearance. As mentioned, you could just keep the heater near the kennel on the floor, this unit should be able to heat that space just fine.
- Mark S. on 2015-11-24
Answer:
No, this heater sits on the legs shown, and has no way of attaching to a wall. It does not turn off if tipped over, but since it's a self-contained oil-filled heater, I doubt it would be a fire hazard if it were to somehow fall over. It might work if you placed it outside of your dog's kennel area. Even at a low setting, it can provide a constant source of heat.
- Bette A. on 2015-11-24
Answer:
Hello Kim, I've purchased four of these heaters for people in my office and we're quite happy with the quiet heat warming our legs under the desk. I do believe these heaters have a safety switch that turns them off when tipped over. But more to the size of your room: one of these 400w heaters likely won't be enough. Plus I think all of the heat will concentrate at the ceiling if that is where you mountvit. Remember the heat comes from both sides of this unit. Sorry I don't have better news for you. Regards, Jeff
- Jeff V. on 2015-11-26
Answer:
It does turn off as it approaches horizontal, so it won't work mounted flat to a ceiling. More importantly, it radiates from both sides and gets too hot to touch, so you don't want it hard against any surface. There are heaters designed to do that; some are known as "legwarmers". (That aside, these are great heaters. Watts-is-watts, but my experience is that they're very effective for the cost.)
