NewAir AF-321 Portable Evaporative Cooler with Built-In Air Purifier

We have a small 2 story cabin in the No.CA mountains, where we go to in the summer as we live in the AZ desert. Due to the way our cabin is designed and built, there is no way to install A/C nor would we go to that expense as it is a 2nd home. YET, we are present there during the summer months of July and August and it can get really hot there and very uncomfortable. We went on-line looking for swamp-coolers, as we have a huge one here in AZ on the roof. We found your website with the portable coolers. And WOW, what a find!!!! I ordered one, as it was more than reasonably priced, guaranteed and warranted. So I waited hoping for the best. My order arrived almost as soon as I hung up from placing the order. We are impressed, impressed!!!! AND we were cool. Thank you very much for offering and selling a product that really works and does what the ad says it will do. We will order another one for upstairs before we head back to the cabin. Appreciate the opportunity to submit a review. Thank you.

The AF-321 is a well made cooler. It functions more as a humidifier rather than a swamp cooler. It will take the edge off of a hot room only if the room is small (ie 8x10). The ice feature really does work and is necessary to operate the unit in a cooler mode. In my opinion the designers of the product needed to install a larger rooler pad to wick up water for a cooler effect. If you want cool air these days you probably should consider an AC unit over an evaporative unit. The down side of going this route is that the AC will cost you 3 times more money.

this swamp cooler doesn't work at all. you can't even use it as a fan. it need a lots of work,you need to put ice in it all the time and lots of water it has to be cold water and needs to be change,it take around 5 gallon of water,even with all the work if it was cooling the air was kinda worth it,but it dont cool the room nor you could use it as a fan,is useless if you want to waste your money buy it.

Has virtually no cooling effect. Put it next to a regular fan to compare and there was no difference in air temperature out of both units. Nice concept, just not engineered very well. There is a mesh pad/ belt that dips down into the water tank. When cooling is selected, a motor rotates the belt and supposedly brings water up into the air stream, and that supposed cooler air through the fan, and out through the louvers. The concept of evaporation providing cooling is proven and works, however, due to the design and engineering of this unit there is virtually no evaporative effect that takes place. I made sure everything was working properly, and it was, just the unit is improperly engineered. I was curious to see if the unit would actually work. It doesnt! Don't waste your money.

After reading all the great reviews, we ordered one for our home. We received the cooler today and were looking forward to a cooler nights sleep only to find out that it DIDN'T WORK AT ALL!!! No power, no hum, no lights, nothing. So we are sending it back. As of right now, our review is pretty bad. Maybe when we receive the replacement we will have better luck and our next review will be better.

This is my first Swamp Cooler, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I live in Colorado, a dry climate, with no air conditioning. We've had a bit of a heat wave this summer and it was absolutely unbearable in my 3rd floor apartment. An air conditioner wasn't an option, so I was looking for an alternative. As long as you understand that this device isn't meant to freeze you out, you'll enjoy. In my case it made my super hot apartment livable. It did its job, in that it added some airflow and cooled the place down a few degrees. It works best in my bedroom during the evening, given that the room is much smaller than the living area. Features I really like are that it is very portable, and VERY easy to set up and use. I really like the oscillating feature and the ice tray, although I couldn't really tell you if adding ice makes a huge difference. It's also fairly quiet. I have it running all the time. Also, it shipped in no time. I recommend this little guy.

prompt delivery, it is a cooler not an air conditioner. it was not a good fit for Austin Texas, 104 degree days with moderate to high humidity. this product probably works well in Arizona or even El Paso. I bought the unit to cool my garage where my big dog sleeps. The cool air was only noticable if you stood right in front of the blower while the ice was melting. it did not change the temperature of the room significantly. My dog now sleeps in the air conditioned laundry room.

I was sort of skeptical, but I hate the summer months here in Sacramento, CA. I started shopping around. All the portable air conditioners wanted you to vent the air out. Now that is a problem. I liked the idea that this worked on the same principle as putting ice cubes in front of your fan. This unit was much easier to use. I put two travel ice packs in at bedtime and set the timer for 4 hours. This was just enough to take the edge off the heat. This cooler is attractive and easy to store when not in use. I am glad I gave it a try.

Good overall cooler for small areas and easy to use. The ice tray is a great feature and easy to fill.

I live in Albuquerque, NM, a high desert. Relative humidity is usually around 20%. A good percentage of the city uses evaporative cooling, which works great here. Evaporative or 'swamp' coolers are simple machines; people know how to use them & repair them in a climate like this. I see two major flaws with this product. The cooling pad retains too much water, not allowing H20 to evaporate from the pad and provide a cooling effect. Secondly, the air that rushes into the fan only comes into contact with a very small portion of the wet pad. The rear intake to the fan might seem large from plain sight, but once the filter/cage assembly is removed, one can see the true intake to the fan is a circle with a 4 inch diameter. From my experience with swamp coolers, the more of the wet pad is exposed to rushing air, the better it cooling effect. This unit does not take advantage of that principle.

My local humidity level is about 55% in the room I was trying to cool, my ambient outdoor temp is in the 60+ range. As they explained to me on my return, this IS NOT an air conditioner. I was trying to use it for uses it was not intended for, this is for hot DRY climates, and as quality goes, it seemed to be a great product, easy to use, and the return was flawless. I recommend the product and the seller, just make sure it?s what you need first. If it?s humid where you are, look for something else.

Everyone there has been helpful, however, we had our first 100 degree day on April Fools day, and, I found it ineffective. I was going to return, it and, upgrade, but, I'm finding that I must move, again soon, so, I have no cash.

I rarely comment on purchases, but I feel my NewAir AF-321 Swamp Cooler deserves my highest recommendation. From day one, it has worked perfectly; it cools & freshens the air, it is quiet; and it is an attractive well-built home appliance. I am absolutely thrilled with its performance and attractiveness. It is easily worth double its price.

I bought this unit to use as a humidifier. The wick type humidifiers do not work. The 321 swamp cooler is a better humidifier than it is a cooler. What makes your unit so superior to the wick type units is that you do not have to replace evaporative cartridges. Second, the wet rotating belt picks up dirt and dust in the air and actually "washes" the air. We have dust storms where I live and my house stays much cleaner with a unit of your type.

I actually purchased this product when it was so hot that you almost couldn't breathe. Sweat was literally dripping off my body, but after I purchased this unit, all the sweating actually stopped. It seemed as though it took the heat right out of the air. I couldn't really afford to buy a portable air conditioner at the time and I thought about an air cooler/swamp cooler. I went on-line and saw this one at a price I could afford. I got it the very next day after I purchased it online. They said I would get it the next day, and I must say that I didn't think I would get it that soon, but I said okay, and it was at my door the very next day. I like it, and most of all I liked the customer service that came along with it, because these days customer service can be so crappy.

This cooler was purchased to keep our chinchilla cool. Her cage is a little lower than were the cool air comes out of the cooler but we have directed the air towards her by putting a piece of cardboard on top. This allows the air to be directed to her without blocking the air flow. So far, the few days we have needed it, our chinchilla seems to enjoy it. We can tell because she lays in front of is as it is blowing towards her. Thank you.

Living in Las Vegas, yes the one in the desert is HOT! Our first summer electric bill was really more than we could afford. My husband has a home office with multiple servers and screens running which put out a lot of extra heat. He was dying in his office with little fans trying to keep him cool. I started doing my homework on finding a swamp cooler. Upon completion of my search I found Air-N-Water had the best price. I ordered our unit on a Friday at 11:45a. It arrived at my door at 10a the next morning! The first unit we received was somehow defective. I called Air-N-Water. I spoke to a very nice person who listened to my concerns and directed me to fill out the on line form for a problem. I was promptly contacted regarding my concerns. A new unit was sent out the next day with again fast shipping. The return was very easy being sent a return shipping label. Our little swamp cooler is PERFECT! It has an ice chamber for extra cooling. We are now able to keep our house setting at 85 which reduced our electric bill in half. Everyone I dealt with at Air-N-Water was very nice. I am looking forward to purchasing a bigger unit for our living room when able. I would highly recommend this company to anyone.

I love how well this product works in bedrooms and all through out the house. The water tanks are awesome, they hold enough to last for two days so I'm not filling them up all day long. The best part is how quiet they are. I almost can't tell it is running because how soft the noise is.

I actually ordered this product for my project shop, but I opened and set it up in my office and it made the room much more comfortable, although it is an air conditioned space, and gave me the flexibility to control ionization, humidity, and supplement my AC. So I have never taken it to my shop. I suppose I will need to get another unit for my shop.

I have fans that have worked better. I would probably order one of your better Coolers next summer. Your shipping was excellent.

I have not had such good luck in the past with swamp coolers. So far I am enjoying the NewAir. It is well made and compact.

When I ordered the product I was told that it might not work for the area I am in, however except for extreme humidity and high temps which you can't stand to go outside, I feel the unit works great. I enjoy sitting on the porch in the am and late pm with it on. Keep on improving product so that maybe someday you will have something that works always for people like me that enjoys the outside but can't stand the heat.

Good for what it does nice design and a nice plain white color not too fancy and has a I.R remote with it and the best thing about it is the Ion switch I researched on it and its suppose to throw negative ions so that u get happy or feel more comfortable I don't know if it works but its a cool concept overall good price and does its job that's all I can say about it I would recommend it if someone like me has a small enough room which gets hot in summer.

I carefully loaded up the cooler with filtered water and put it on in a small upstairs room that gets hot and has no operable windows for any ventilation. It seemed to take a long time to get any cooling going on at all and never seemed to cool the room (20 x 10 with low ceilings) completely. As it says, it's only for 150 square feet of cooling, I guess, and I thought it would do a better job.

Yes I would recommend to friend or relative I found it works better for me when I use ice cubes also there should be additional ice tray thanks.

This evaporative cooler does not cool very effectively. Basically, it functions as a nice fan, but with very little cooling. The features are nice--timer, variable speed, ice container--but even with ice, it really doesn't provide much cooling. I have a smaller unit of a different brand that actually works much better. Disappointing.

The Design of swamp is such that it has a rotating belt which act as a cooling pad. When the belt moves down it dips in the water below. However, the cooling belt does not hold enough cold water in its belt and hence it does not blow enough cool air to cool the room. It is a serious design flaw.

I have only had the unit a week,so I have no way to make a referral as to the mechanical quality, but I was satisfied with the cabinet as far as construction, location of controls, and a convenient filling port. The unit was basically "plug & play", longer power cord than usual gives some extra freedom with location, and the rollers make it easy to use in my home office. I recently had surgery which affected my breathing and I can't say to what degree this unit was responsible, but I think my breathing improvement has accelerated since I got it. I think I get humidification at a more natural rate and the ionizer function, filtering, and with some additional "zone" cooling has helped. I think I will probably add another unit to help in my shop, at only 85 watts power consumption it is an efficient fan, plus the cooling, humidification, filtering, and ionizing.

First of all Reno is located on what is called a high dessert, humidity is extremely low, like 17 to 20% Air conditioners cool the air but they also dry the air out even more. In climates like the one I live in needs something to cool and yet put moisture back in the air. We have a NewAir swamp cooler model AF-321, modestly priced, between the Den and the Living Room 12x12' and 20x15, because of the size of the area we are cooling, it keeps both rooms cool, not cold, and you can definitely feel the moisture in the air. I only rate products that are worth my time and this is one of them. Check them out there different models for different sized areas.

Does the job I was gonna move in to the garage temporary and it is hot in there so before I moved in I order this Swamp cooler and I find it very nice it throws cool air and the only thing I saw is that as long as the ice is in the cooler ice slot it will be affective and the moment its melted it will reduce its performance overall this thing is very nice I like the remote and I almost forgot to tell u that this thing even has a cool feature that I don't think any other cooler has which is that this thing has a ion button which as they say throws negative ions in the air and it make u feel more happy and comfortable any ways I don't think it is that effective but overall it is nice and does its job.

I use this in the Garage for my two kittys that I house there. It works good in 100+ degree weather. Of course my Garage is insulated but the doors are not. It keeps it cool enough so they are comfortable in this drastic summer heat.

We are disappointed in the fan strength. The cooler appears to work as advertised except that the fan doesn't blow the cooled air with sufficient strength to provide relief from heat unless you are sitting directly by the unit.

The room is to warm, and I think the blowing vents should either be in the middle or near the bottom of the machine...the top where it blows out, you don't really feel it much, even if you sit in front of it...I even put a fan on the top in front of it so it will blow the cooler air out ....so I really don't recommend this model....

There are three of us in one office with no ac vent and the swamp cooler is wonderful. It keeps us cool, easy to care for the cooler. It's great. No problems. Thank you.

Its nice, though it feels just like a normal fan. Adding ice doesn't do much to cool down a closed room, from what I have experienced it makes the room hotter then just a fan. I would have to do a conditioner next order.

I am really disappointed in the performance of the cooler. The cooling function performance is much less than I had hoped for. When filled properly and operating in the cool mode, there is no noticable difference in air temperature versus the fan mode. I have tried adding ice and am equally disappointed in the performance. I now use it as an overpriced fan in my bedroom.

I purchased it to use at work where I work in an area which is about 10 x 15. There is no working air conditioning and no windows. I find that as long as I keep ice in the ice compartment that it cools the area down keeping me from getting heat exhaustion. It is not as cool as an air conditioner but makes the room so I can function in it. It is quiet and easy to move around. Before, I was unable to do my work because I got so hot. I like the remote control. There are no leaking problems. I would definitely recommend it.

It's lightweight and compact; however, it puts out lukewarm air. The air it emits is not even as cool as that from a regular fan. I followed instructions and put water and even ice in the unit (in their appropriate places) and still no cool air. I am returning the unit.

I like ALL the features of this product (portable swamp cooler)! It's great being able to see the water level at a glance! The oscillating air flow and the extra ice compartment have made my life much more pleasant...been very hot here!

It is light and easy to move around. For its size it does a good job. It is perfect for what I wanted it for.

We love this evaporative cooler. It is easy to use, to empty out and refill. We are having an historic heat wave right now and I use the ice option. I put in ice, it puts out cold air. And it is environmentally friendly. As long as we take good care of it, it lasts for years. An excellent investment.

I am sorry to say that though the unit is a fine fan it does not rate as a swamp cooler. I have used cold water stored in the fridge and used the ice block and the cooling option all to no avail. As a fan it is lovely but my " half the size of this, swamp cooler" dispels much cooler air to actually lower the temperature of the immediate environment. I have a small apartment and lots of fans but am getting much more cooling effect from my old cooler which I was loking to replace with this one. I am glad I kept it and as I say am using this as a rather large fan. Sorry. Wish it were great.

So far somewhat disapppointed. I was expecting something with a wetted pad like a typical swamp cooler. This unit appears to have some type of rotating pad cylinder that goes in/out of the water reservoir. With that I don't believe this unit has anywhere near the efficiency that I was expecting/hoping for. Our climate has 25-30% humidity levels, frankly I was looking for better results. It is not much better that a fan blowing on you. As far as cooling a room, from what I have seen the cooling effect is that in direct line of air flow. So if you are in front of it, some effect...Otherwise as far as room cooling, not impressed.

It does not cool down the temprature even when I ued ICE and WATER. Mainly it acts like a fan just moving the air not cooling it. I used it when the atm temp was abut 100 F and the humidity was about 37. It is unfortunate that I have to pay a 15% re-stocking fee plus shipment on this item when I return it.

I have enjoyed this swamp cooler. The wheels allow us to take it to any room we like and it is actually very light. Because I can't lift heavy things. We stay comfortable. I have actually ordered one for my daughter and her husband. I have also recommended it to a friend and she is going to be ordering one. Extremely happy

I work the graveyard shift and this small unit in our bedroom has been a lifesaver. I hope to purchase a larger unit soon for our living room. It does require you to keep a jug of cold water in the fridge to feed the unit, but it does do a nice job over all.

This unit does not cool at all the way I thought it would. You almost have to be 1 or 2 feet away from it and even then it is not very cool.....more like a regular fan. I purchased it for the bedroom so I wouldn't have to run my a/c in the whole house and I still have to run the a/c all the time. Also it is quite loud. Sorry about the poor review. I was really hoping it would solve my problems.

Cooler is very efficient, to cool a 12 by 14 foot room.

This unit is easy to move, operates quietly, and has instructions that are impossible to misunderstand...even for me! It's a matter of opening the box, reading for five minutes, plugging it in, and enjoying a much cooler room.

I have enjoyed using this unit rather than another unit that I purchased 3 of and 1 broke. But this one did a fantastic job of cooling our living room during the very hot summer we had here in central Washington. I am planning on buying another one for this summer. Having this cooler really helped us make it through the summer. I am one who loses his temper a lot in the real hot weather, but with this cooler, I was able to keep my cool. Wanted to save on air conditioning bill by using a water cooler. It is doing what I wanted it to do. Nice looking design. Easy to read and use panel. Wheels roll smooth and easy. I would definately recommend this product. I am happy with its performance and its so simple to operate. I also got one for my mom...for all the same reasons.

I needed something to cool down my bedroom. The product was inexpensive and works well. The swamp cooler I purchase is working well, it is a great product. It is quite and cools the room down with the knowledge that I am using less energy than an air conditioner. It is easy to move around, nice design and has ample amount of room for the water so the unit will run longer.

I needed to cool an area in my home where there we couldn't install air conditioning, so a portable AC was our best choice. The AF-321 has a nice size, is portable, and has high quality. I've already recommended this product to friends!

It's humid where I live so I needed a swamp cooler. The AF-321 is doing very well and is keeping my small green house cooler. It's simple to operate and setup. Great product!

We purchased this unit because it would be cheaper to run then central air conditioning. I was really impressed with the speed of delivery, and in terms of performance, it pretty much runs 24/7. It does a great job of keeping my bedroom comfortable, and I really enjoy the three speed settings. I would definitely recommend this product to others.

I purchased this product because of its price, compact size, and portability. When I received the product, I liked the look and shape of it. So far it's performing well, has ample water storage, is easy to move around, and simple to operate. I would recommend this to anyone who's looking for something small and portable, but not for a mainstream cooling device.
