If they're large and doing their job they are! I've had this one operating 24/7 for two years now....shut it off to clean it before summer begins. No complaints, it does what its supposed to do and that's MOVE AIR.

When our 10 year old Sanyo window fan died, I was dismayed to discover Sanyo no longer sold fans in the US. So I ordered this fan for our bedroom window.
It moves air well, but is crazy noisy, even at the lowest setting. I think it is the fan blade design rather than the motor, but it's a little hard to tell. Compared to the whisper-quiet Sanyo (which moved air equally well), this fan is junk. It would be OK in an area where noise is not important, but we can't use it in our bedroom at night, even in the most distant window.
Too bad only junk fans are available in the US-- I've looked all over the Internet for a quality Japanese fan... but can't find one.

Received my 9935 fan today and very surprised at the quality compared to fans in this price range. Fan blade is balanced. Pushes air better than I expected. I wanted a fan that I could hear, but not too much and low is just right. Does not have a motor sound but a fan sound(if that makes sense). Great fan.

I installed this fan in the access hatch to the attic, and it's doing a great job of bringing in cooler outside air to displace the hot air in the attic (110 degree plus). It very effectively moves the air.

A 14" fan is hard to find if you're looking for a window fan that really works--buy this one... Instead of the BS that many fans give, this one gives the CPM Air Flow specs and it moves the air extremely good and can be window mounted with a shroud around it and used for circulation of large areas. Our evenings cool down at nights very well and this fan can save a lot on AC bringing in the cool night air for great summer sleeping. Your garage or other structure can use it too for ventilation.

Purchased this fan for a 9 x 9 room with a small 21" window. It just fit. This room has an xbox and a computer that runs 16 hours a day and faces the setting sun. The heat in that room was unbearable and when the door was open would heat the rest of the house. This fan fits inside the screen as stated. We used as an exhaust fan at first. The drop in temperature was within minutes. As soon as it cools off at night we use it the opposite way and it not only cools the room but helps cool the rest of the house. Will be buying another for the kitchen so I will be able to use the oven during the summer. The only thing I would like is for this exact fan to come in a 12" or 13" model.
