Question:
Why did you buy this item?
Answer:
review were good
- Janice D. on 04-18-2014
Answer:
I was looking for a solidly constructed exhaust fan, preferably with metal blades and housing that was wide enough to span the 36" needed to properly mount in my apartment windows. Though this fan was definitely at the higher end of what I wanted to spend, compared to the competition, which was almost exclusively all plastic, it had the more powerful motor and the more substantial construction. Being as I expect to own this for years, the extra $40-$50 seemed worth it.

Answer:
I purchased this fan because the 50 yr old fan that I have had for 37 yrs. had the motor burn up. Was looking for something comparable. Hope this one has the same workmanship and quality of the old one to last through the years! That is the reason I ordered it today. Not a full review as I will make that after I get it and see if it is as good.

Question:
My husband bought this model a few years ago. I loved the way it pulled air but couldn't use #2 or #3. The noise level on #1 was annoying but it was a worthwhile trade for cooler air. Has the noise level improved in the last 3 years? Summer just hit Hawaii and I have no cross ventilation. HELP please.
- Beth D. on 2014-06-09
Answer:
Do not know why you could not use the #2 and #3 speeds. We use the lowest speed most of the time. We did think it was loud on #1 at first but it seems to have quieted down. Part of our noise was mostly vibration from the way it sat in the window, One of the other reasons ours was loud was because we have extremely wide windows and have the extenders opened fully, and also have a small board on the sides added to the window itself. This added some vibration factors to the equation. Our fan is in a 2nd story window so we don't notice it as much. Daughter;s bedroom is on the 2nd floor and she says some days she thinks it is louder than our 50 yr. old one that it replaced, and other times she doesn't think it is too loud. But a bit of noise is acceptable in exchange for the way it moves air and cools the house! And as I said, we use it on the two lower speeds more than the highest speed. What they should do is add a set screw on the panel sides that would hold the panels securely and that would cut down on the vibration and the extra noise. The set screw should be a thumb screw welded to all 4 corners of the fan itself that you could adjust easily from the front. This would allow you to get the adjustment right and cut down on vibration that causes some additional noise. Hope this helps answer your question.
- Michael T T. on 2014-06-10
Answer:
We love this model! It's doing great thusfar in our turn-of-the-century home in Baltimore. However, it is loud! The fan is sitting in a window on the first landing, and is some distance from our living areas. It works great as ambient noise to keep my 4-month old grandson asleep! It would not be ideal in an area where you're trying to have a conversation.
- Janice D. on 2014-06-10
Answer:
Yes it is much better!!!
- Eli C. on 2014-06-09
Answer:
It's still pretty noisy but I use mine in the garage, so it doesn't bother me. Hope this helps.
- Anita M. on 2014-06-09
Answer:
Beth- we have the same model. Same problem. The balance of the fan is terrible. Can not operate on 2 or 3. It has since stopped working all together. Thought because it is made in US it would be a long lasting item. Wrong! Your best bet as buy something else. Sorry you made the same mistake I did. We had very limited use of ours.
- David E. on 2014-06-09
Answer:
Noise as in vibration or just the fan. The fan is loud but I put it in a room where it does not matter. I put it on exhaust so it pulls air in the other windows. It keeps my house cool. And if you are talking about vibration I don't have a problem with that. I love this fan. We had temps around 98 last summer here in Tenn. and we don't have air. The fan works great.
- sherry j. on 2014-06-09
Answer:
This is a very noisy fan no matter what setting you use. I wouldn't recommend it for inside a house; however. it works well in a garage.
- Bonnie N. on 2014-06-09
Answer:
The noise resembles a jet engine when on maximum setting--great for evacuating hot air from the house but would be too loud for sleeping if in close proximity.
- Michelle C. on 2014-06-09
Answer:
Beth: I finally got this thing installed today (July 7th). It's 87 degrees here now and it is amazing how much air this thing is moving through my apartment. I had expected to have given up and turned on the A/C by now, but so far, so good. As far as noise level: YES, this thing is LOUD! Like you, I find #1 tolerable, but still not quiet in any way. Level 2 is already getting silly and #3 is downright ridiculous. Also, the fan is not so well balanced that it doesn't vibrate when on #3. Frankly, I would not have expect a fan of this caliber to not have been better balanced. As far as noise, realize that this is virtually a commercial level product. It is overkill for my large 1 bdrm apartment and perhaps for your application as well. It would be nice if their #1 was about 1/2 the speed of what it is, with #2 being somewhere between the lowered #1 and their #3. However, if you can put this thing someplace where you aren't right next to it, or trying to watch TV or listen to music next to it (i.e. and attic, extra room, etc), it truly does an amazing job of circulating air and keeping the living space cool.

Question:
My window meets the dimensions, but the screen opening is only 22 inches when the double hung window is fully open. Is this okay? Or do I need the 27 inches of screen opening?
- Anonymous on 2014-07-13
Answer:
After speaking with the manufacturer, as long as unit meets the dimensions of the window the 27 inches is not necessary.
- CustomerServiceSTAFF on 2014-07-22
Answer:
Don't waste you money on this fan. the one I bought has failed in less than a year with probably less than 500 hrs of use. I could never run it on medium or high because it shook so much. Not vibrate, shook. I should have sent it back immediately.
- David E. on 2014-07-13
Answer:
If you are implying that you will mount the fan inside with the screen to the outside of the fan's frame, then it seems pretty obvious that a) you don't need the clearance and b) you'll be either blowing through or sucking through the screen, depending on whether you are using exhaust or intake mode. If you don't mind the extra cleaning you'll probably be doing, there should be no problem. If, on the other hand, you expect to mount the 27" fan into a 22" opening, that's just as obviously not going to happen! FWIW - My fan is mounted to the inside of the window (double hung) with one side mounted to the wall, the other, attached to the window frame via 'L' brackets. This allows me to open or close the window behind (i.e. to the outside) of the fan when raining. A minor amount of insulation takes care of any openings around the fan. Works very well for me.

Question:
We have vinyl window frames. Do we have to mount the fan in with screws or can we simply put it in the window without permanently mounting it?
- Anonymous on 2014-08-10
Answer:
Per the manufacturers installation manual: "The large number of window styles and types makes it impossible to describe one universal installation procedure. Whichever method you choose, you should allow the window to be closed easily for security and protection of home furnishings against the weather."

- Bianca M. on 2015-07-16
Answer:
The shipping weight was 35 lbs, but there was a lot of cardboard protecting it, so I guess the fan itself weighs about 30 lbs or less. It is light enough that my daughter was able to install it. I recommend this product.
