Fire Sense 60758 1350 Watt Wall Mounted Electric Fireplace

Overall I'm pretty happy with this purchase, which we've had for about two weeks now. I've always wanted a fireplace in my bedroom and the size, convenience and look of this unit are just perfect for my small, contemporary space. From a design element, it is beautiful - modern, stylish and sleek. The stainless steel coordinates so well with the other silver and brushed nickel items in the room and really complements the blues on the walls and in the linens. The "logs" and "flames" are realistic enough and there is enough of a random pattern on the flames for you to fool yourself into believing they are real. My husband and I just love turning on the unit while in bed and talk while watching the flames. It has had a real calming effect and has helped make the bedroom the tranquil sanctuary that I've always wanted. So why only 4 out of 5 stars? Unfortunately, there is a slight mechanical knocking noise that accompanies the flames. It's fine with the television on and when there is other ambient noise going on but true peaceful moments with just the fire going are not really possible. The other slight annoyance is that the blower when the heat is on is also a tad bit loud. Again, fine with the TV on or other ambient noise but disappointing without. Two other minor complaints: 1) The stainless steel was covered with fingerprints when we got it (gloves, anyone?) and 2) the electrical cord is on the side so it's awkward to put it on a wall-mounted electrical outlet like you would a flat-panel tv. The unit shipped quickly, came right out of the box and my husband had no problems putting it up on the wall (which was a first - sorry hon!). The remote control is great and it's fun to turn the fire up and down to simulate different phases in the life of the fire. It's too early to see what this is doing to my electrical bill but for the ambiance and fun it has brought to our home, it will probably be worth it.
