Consumer Reports rated this unit as its #1 space heater. I have found their recommendation very reliable over the years and generally look to purchase products they have rated as best buys. My early experience with this unit is positive, although we have had it only a short while. It heats up quickly and makes little noice. This heater does NOT heat a 432 square ft basement. It runs for hours and will only get to 67 degrees. I'm not too happy with it.

I live in a 16' x 80' mobile home that is all electric except for the furnace which is gas. I don't have a sense of smell so gas leaks scare me. This heater has taken all that fear away from me.
This is a very well-insulated home, but last year my gas bill ran $200 or more with the thermostat set at 65. My base electric bill ran $85. This made a total of almost $300 on a very limited income. That was a relatively warm winter.
I bought this heater and turned off my gas in hopes of lowering utilities expenses. IT WORKED!
So far this last month the temperature has averaged several degrees below normal with nights well down into the teens and a couple of single digit nights.
My last electric bill was $129 and that includes a rate hike of 5%! Subtracting the $85 base, this heater has heated my living room and kitchen -650 sq feet - to a comfortable temperature on less than $50!! In addition, my bedroom - the master and farthest from the furnace - has been warmer with this heater than it was last year with the gas furnace.
As to comfort: On days when the temperature is below 30 I need to wear a sweatshiret, but if is above 35 or 40, a t-shirt is all that is needed!
Would I recommend this heater? YOU BETCHA!!!
I think the only change I would make is a two-speed fan.
As for Air-n-Water, I cannot praise them highly enough. Their customer service is outstanding and they go out of their way to find the answer to any question asked.

I live in upstate New York in the Adirondack Mountains and its already in the high 30's some nights. I have a 2500 SF home that was built in 1972, when oil was cheap and insulation was under utilized. I have 3 of these DuraFlame Williams Heaters in my down stairs, cause my house is cut up quite a bit (aka not a lot of open space). I set them at 68 last night and in the morning it was nice and warm down stairs, not to mention the temperature had rose 8 degrees up stairs from all the heat rising. My wife turned them on the other morning and they heated the down stairs in about 10 minutes. I have not had them long enough to talk about energy consumption, but what I do know is, It can't be more expensive than $300-400 a month in oil. I am impressed!!!!!!!

First Air and Water is great to deal with! No problems at all.
I bought this heater realizing I probably couldn't heat the entire main floor as it is an open floor plan. The heater works fine in a small room but 1000 square feet is quite optimistic. In our larger open area it will reach 65 degrees, (after calibration to match HVAC thermostat), and keeps the furnace from running (we keep it cool) but it has to run constantly and cannot get enough heat to cycle off. Therefore the saving is probably moot. Great for the bedroom and smaller enclosed areas though.

I was a little disappointed. I have 10 foot ceilings and I don't believe this product is suited for that. The square foot rating is dramatically reduce I feel, because of the ceiling height. It suppliments my home heater ok. thanks

I ordered this heater because every other one I came across had a warning about keeping pets and kids away because something on it would get too hot...not this one. I have 3 cats and they were my primary concern when trying to find a heater to heat a sun porch in northern Ohio. After reading review after review about how great this heater was and SAFE for pets, I put in my order. This heater does a good job of keeping a 24x14 sun porch usable when the temperatures have been in the lower 40's. This is a lot to ask of any heater as the porch has single pane glass all around and no insulation. It was made for warm weather only and that is all it could be used for until now. I didn't rate the energy efficiency properly because I haven't gotten my electric bill and I knew going in that with no insulation that it would have to run a lot. I am a senior citizen that has done very little ordering over the internet and was very apprehensive about ordering from a company across the country that I had never heard of. Rest easy if you order from this company. The lady I ordered from was very nice and extremely patient when I called with questions about 3 times before I finally ordered. I got the best price I had found anywhere, it was delivered on time, and in perfect condition. What more could you ask... Many A+'s for both this product and the company I bought it from. p.s. The cats that are always on it highly recommend it too!

After doing a lot of research, my husband and I purchased a Duraflame heater for ourselves and one for my dad, who is always cold. Dad has had a heart attack and can't lift much weight, so loading wood into the fireplace just wouldn't be good for him this winter. The heater arrived exactly when the sales associate said it would and we set up his heater in front of the fireplace. He has been cozy warm ever since and hasn't had to lift more than a finger to pick up the remote. This truly was one of the best purchases we have ever made. Minnesota winters are notoriously cold, and this little heater throws out enough heat to warm up even minus 0 degree nights. Thanks for making a solid product.

Since it is still warm outside, I am not currently using the product but we tried it out and it throws a lot of heat, seems to be pretty quiet, has a beautiful appearence, and touts that we will save on heating costs because we use propane. Hope it works as well as it looks.
