What Indoor Air Quality Means for You

Did you know that indoor air can be 10 times more polluted than the air you breathe outdoors? Indoor air pollutants are unwanted and sometimes harmful particles that we breathe in without our knowledge.

They are typically microscopic, and therefore, unseen. Usually the best way to eliminate the source of pollutants is to ventilate the home and use an air purifier.

Many indoor sources of pollution release gases or particles into the air. Inadequate ventilation causes these gases and particles to populate our home, and because there is not enough outdoor air to dilute emissions and provide a balance, we are affected.

Common household pollutants include oil, gas, wood, and tobacco products. There is also asbestos containing insulation, carpet, cabinetry made with pressed wood, household cleaning products, and heating and cooling systems that emit pollutants into the air.

How does poor indoor air quality affect me?

Effects of poor indoor air quality or IAQ are irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat, headache, dizziness, and fatigue. Diseases like asthma, hypersensitivity pneumonitis and humidifier fever will act up soon after exposure to many indoor pollutants. Since most of us spend much of our time indoors either at home, school or the office, exposure to chemicals, gases, and living organisms like mold and pets is quite common.

Do I need an air purifier?

Consider your surroundings. Do you think you need an air purifier? Are you an allergy sufferer? Do have asthma? If so, then an air purifier can help. Luma Comfort offers two distinctive air purifiers: AP170W and the AP400W. Whatever allergy causing troubles you have with your IAQ, Luma Comfort offers a purifier that can help you tackle the problem.

Need more reasons to consider an air purifier? Do you have a baby in the house? Is there a smoker? Do you have pets? Does anyone suffer from allergies or asthma? Do you have a pet allergy but your love your furry friend so much you want to keep it anyway? These are all sorts of reasons to use an air  purifier. Control the presence of

  • Radon, a radioactive gas produced by soil that enters the house through cracks in the flooring and walls
  • Secondhand smoke from tobacco
  • Combustion pollutants like fuel burning stoves and fireplaces, washers and dryers
  • Volatile organic compounds or VOCs in paint, cleaning supplies, varnishes and waxes, pesticides, and furnishings
  • Asthma triggers like mold, dust mites, secondhand smoke, and pet dander
  • Mold spores that grow on damp surfaces and float in the air

Everything You Need to Know About Luma Comfort Air Purifiers

Luma Comfort air purifiers offer the most complete purification system available with five stages of air purification. Purification methods include HEPA filter, carbon pre-filter, UV light, TiO2 filter and VOC filter.

We break them down below so you have a better understanding of how they can benefit your home and your life.

  • HEPA filter: HEPA is a high efficiency filter that traps fine particles like pollen, pet dander, dust mites, mold spores, and tobacco smoke. HEPA filters can trap particles that tend to make allergies worse. Often allergens are located in bedding, carpet, rugs, drapes and pillows. A HEPA filter captures particles as small as 0.3 microns.
  • Carbon Pre-filter: This filter maximizes the effectiveness of the HEPA filter. It captures larger particles, pet dander, dust, and odors.
  • UV light: UV filtration is a disinfection method that kills microorganisms. It's primarily used to kill pathogens, viruses, and molds that are airborne or growing on surfaces.
  • TiO2 filter: TiO2 filters work with the UV light to target and render bacteria and other contaminants harmless. Together, these filters attach themselves to harmful airborne compounds and burn off offending pollutants by turning them into nothing more than harmless carbon dioxide and water molecules.
  • VOC filter: A VOC filter or activated carbon and charcoal filter combats volatile organic compounds or harmful VOCs. These carbon-based airborne and sometimes odorous chemicals commonly found throughout the house in items like paint, furniture, and carpeting. The VOC filter targets and removes these particles from the air.

Combined, these filters capture 99% of common airborne pollutants like dust, dander, mold, bacteria, and chemicals.

Customer Reviews:

"Our son suffers from bad seasonal allergies especially in the Spring so we opted to put this unit in his bedroom. After just a day there is a noticeable difference. He and my daughter both say their noses are less stuffy and you can actually tell a difference in the air in his room vs the rest of the house. A+++" - 5/14/213

"This is a really nice air purifier for under $200. I was looking for something that had a bit more than a basic HEPA filter, and wanted to stay away from an ionizer as well - they give me a headache for whatever reason. This unit seemed to fit the bill, with four different filters as well as a UV light. After using it for a few weeks, you really can notice a difference in the room.

We put this unit in our bedroom as my allergies as well as my wife's have been acting up a bit lately. We also have a large dog, which doesn't exactly help the issue. After running this overnight for a few nights, we've definitely noticed a difference. It's relatively quiet on the lowest level, which is nice for the bedroom. A few times we've turned it up to high during the day when no one's around. Obviously, there's a bit more fan noise on the highest level, but it's still nothing outrageous. The timer really comes in handy during the day as well, as we'll run it for 2-3 hours at a time and don't have to worry about coming back to shut it off.

One word of advice - a couple of the filters inside the unit are wrapped in plastic, so make sure you unwrap them before using it the first time. It's really easy to do, which is nice because I'm sure I'll have to get in there again to change the filters here in the next 6 months or so. So far, it's just been a great addition to the house, and I hope it keeps up!" - 4/22/213

Customer Reviews:

"I have a Microbiology background so I am picky with my air purifiers. This Luma Comfort model has all the features you need

I picked this up a few weeks ago, just as my allergies started to act up again. I was looking for the best bang for my buck, but with my background I also wanted quality.

What's really great about this unit are all the different filters and UV light. The HEPA seems high quality, and the activated carbon is so great to have - I won't go into the chemistry behind it, but it makes a huge difference in air quality. Throw in the UV light, and you have a high end air purifier.

It's nice and quiet on the lower settings, but on high it does sound like a fan running on high, obviously. The only thing I would change is adding a remote control. It would be nice to turn it on from the other end of the room. Other than that, this is a steal." - 5/14/213
